Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday home in Richmond & Kew - Barnes Riverside

4 Bedroom, 4 Bathroom Exquisitely Decorated Home Sits Right Next To The River

Night at the museum

Barnes Riverside is many things. A beautiful piece of Georgian architecture. A fascinating collection of antique furniture and vintage curios. A portrait of all things British. Above all, it is a warm and welcoming home.

There’s something of the boutique hotel. Perhaps it’s the precision with which its owners have curated its contents, for every chair, every picture fairly sings with beauty. Outside there’s a formal knot garden, and you don’t have to look far for further greenery. Down by the river Thames and filled with parks, Barnes is surely one of the loveliest of London’s villages.

Expert opinions

It’s hardly surprising that Barnes Riverside is such a jewel of a home, for its owners know all there is to know about creating perfect interiors. He’s a classical architect and historian, specialising in the restoration of listed buildings, while she’s an ex-museum director with an interest in textiles.

Pieces of history

The first room you’ll encounter is the imposing dining room, its black walls provide the perfect foil for silverware and glass. The eat-in kitchen’s large, and filled with elegant antique furniture. You may want to move straight on to the garden, with its olive trees and miniature hedging, or pop your head around the ground floor double bedroom, and the bathroom next door with its freestanding bath.

Upstairs there’s a grand drawing room, here, the light filters through the ivy that wreaths the original curved windows onto gilt mirrors, deep couches and ancient books. Next door there’s a bedroom, with a rather lovely wooden sleigh bed, and alongside, a bathroom with a bath and shower. The master suite’s on the top floor, with views across the river, and next door there’s a further sleigh-bedded single with its own bathroom.

Past and present

On sunny days it may simply be enough to sit back and watch the boats pass by. Explore further and you’ll find plenty to intrigue you. Sample the delights at the local farmer's market, or discover the Village's traditional pubs, smart restaurants and boutiques. The bustle of town is within reach and Barnes Bridge station will have you in Zone 1 in just eighteen minutes, and after that, all of central London’s your oyster…
