Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Richmond & Kew - First Avenue
3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home right next to the river and surrounded by parks
The Thames laps at the end of the road, sunshine fills pastel-painted rooms, and the garden echoes with children’s laughter. There’s a country charm to First Avenue, a laid-back sense of fun unsullied by the demands of real life. Patchwork, wooden toys and heritage textiles welcome you home, so much so that you may never want to leave. But when you do, be sure to take some bread for the ducks. Cross the river to Dukes Meadows for green turf and a weekly famers’ market, or head down into Barnes village, where you’ve independent grocers, lovely restaurants and outrageously cute pubs. You’re surrounded by parks, and not far from the London Wetland Centre. And should the rain start to fall, grab some crumpets, put the kettle on, and prepare for a jolly good snuggle.
Your hosts love to ski, and they collect vintage sporting memorabilia. Their parents live in Florida, and come the winter months they’re often jetting to the sunshine state to catch some rays, and some home cooking.
First Avenue is a beloved family home, and it won’t take long for you to feel like one of the gang. Photos, magnets and stickers jostle on the chrome fridge , and we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a message waiting for you on the chalkboard. The kitchen itself is large and well equipped, with dining space for six and doors opening out onto the garden. The sitting room’s relaxed and comfy, and all three bedrooms are doubles, their furniture a mix of the vintage and the modern. The master is especially splendid, with large windows, and a spectacular carved bed.

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Richmond & Kew
Building cranes may cram the skyline of the city of London, but here in Barnes, just south of Hammersmith, life flows as almost unaltered as it has for the past millennium.
The historic village centres on a pond, where children feed the ducks and leather on willow can be heard from the cricket pitch. It might all come across a tad Midsomer Murders (a detective drama with an plausibly high body count for a rural English village), but this kind of easily-accessible charm combined with a proximity to central London makes for a potent habitat.
The clued-in locals ponder whether to go for a Highlander cocktail at riverside brasserie The Depot or head straight for a night of jazz at legendary haunt The Bull's Head. The fact that Madonna, Björk and Coldplay used (the now sadly closed) Olympic Studios on Church Road to record albums just shows that village life here is more chic than hick.
