LUXURIOUS SECLUSION IN A COUNTRY ESTATE

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in County Armagh - The Old Dairy

A Large One Bedroom Apartment In An Old Farm Quadrangle

Sometimes a stunning piece of countryside sits waiting to be discovered while the majority of people head for the better known destinations, but for couples wanting to step off the well trodden routes, The Old Dairy sits in the middle of a thousand acres of rolling drumlins and ancient woodland.

Accommodation consists of a 1,100sq. Ft. one bedroom apartment specifically designed for couples wanting to get away from 'it all'.

It is a first floor apartment, with a 600sq. Ft. Living room incorporating the original trusses that supported the roof above the dairy in a previous time, a 250 sq ft. Bedroom and 250 sq. Ft kitchen/bathroom.

We have furnished and equipped it with everything that would encourage you to light the stove, put your feet up and switch off should you decide not to venture out. When you tire of books or backgammon, there is an extensive dvd library for you to choose from.

The bedroom has a king size bed, the kitchen is fully equipped including a nespresso machine and every conceivable device to rustle up the most complicated meal, or a toaster should the extent of your holiday desires extend to nothing more than putting the kettle on!

As for outdoor amenities, Tynan Abbey is yours to explore at your leisure. Barring the occasional bull that you may need to avoid, take your pick from the woodland, parkland or the 11 acre lake which has its own swimming jetty. Otherwise there is a secluded area for you to barbecue or sit out should the weather gods smile favourably on you.

For those with a more energetic bent, the area below the apartment has been converted in to a gym, but you can use it for drying your raincoats if you are not that way inclined!

If you are looking for a holiday where there are no street lights, where on a clear night you could reach out and touch the stars and where you are as likely to look out of the bedroom window and see a couple of wild deer grazing as sheep, you have come to the right place.

Beautiful apartment in an impressive estate. Lovely mix of old and new. Apartment had everything you would need and the wood burner was a welcome bonus! Kate & Peter very welcoming.

Comfortable, relaxing and welcoming

  • 5 out of 5
My only regret with this holiday was that it wasn't longer. We felt truly welcomed and were very comfortable. The apartment is very spacious and beautifully furnished and although there is only one bedroom there is plenty of space to spread out.

The kitchen is very compact and while I wouldn't want to do a LOT of cooking in it (I've rarely found one where I would), there's certainly enough equipment to cook with. I found the owners very helpful so had there been something vital missing, I'd have felt comfortable asking for it. The bathroom too is small but well fitted out and practical with a good shower.

The sitting area has very comfortable sofas, good lighting and tv etc. and a lovely wood burner with a huge basket of logs waiting for us. This felt very luxurious. The dining area is simply but beautifully laid out with very nice furniture, which as throughout, was a mix of modern with antiques.

The bed is huge and the most comfortable I think I've ever slept in!

The estate is lovely with walks and beautiful views; it's a very relaxing and peaceful place to be. Everyone we met was very friendly but they didn't force themselves on us either.

Particularly welcoming touches were: the flowers in the hall and on the table when we arrived, the half dozen of their own eggs and the jar of honey from the estate hives. We had a really lovely and totally relaxing holiday.

The land at Tynan Abbey and its environs has always attracted travellers, be they passing monks who founded a monastery nearby in the ninth century or the vikings who inevitably followed and brought their own culture to lay down a mark on the place.

Centuries later, three large estates were formed in the area as landowners came to appreciate the beauty of the land and the quality of the farming. The legacy of Caledon in Tyrone, Tynan Abbey in Armagh and Castle Leslie in Monaghan was to leave a landscape of woodland and parkland in a small pocket of the country where three counties touch, that is unrivalled throughout Ireland.

Whilst being able to enjoy this scenery and tranquility at Tynan Abbey, Castle Leslie sits just up the road, offering all of the facilities of one of Ireland's most charismatic country house hotels including horse riding, kayaking and a spa, not to mention a cracking pub in the village of Glaslough next door for a couple of pints after a hard day's relaxing!

For those of you wishing to cast the net a bit further, Donegal, its beaches and jaw dropping scenery are within an hour and a half and make for an ideal day trip, as does The Giant's Causeway in Antrim.

Driving may be the last thing on your mind, in which case you can grab a couple of bikes and cycle the local trail devised by Paddy Mcquaid all around the area. The Titanic Quarter in Belfast has its merits, but you will never get to learn about the man who had a funeral for his own leg, Niall's hollow where a viking warlord was lured to a love match and drowned by the locals, where Gi's used to barter goods across the border and where they had church services around a celtic cross before departing for D-Day. All of this and a good thirst and hunger at the end of the day!

We may be inland, but the world is still your oyster!
