For a relatively short stretch of road, Knightsbridge sure carries a lot of clout. The name has become eponymous with luxury shopping, ultra-expensive residences and non-doms willing to spend whatever it takes to live the dream.
Knightsbridge runs southwards from Hyde Park Corner, suitably starting at Apsley House, the neo-classical townhouse of the Dukes of Wellington which carried the self-assured nickname Number One London as it was the first house riders encountered after the toll gate at Knightsbridge. The moniker has been carried on in Candy & Candy's notorious One Hyde Park next to the Mandarin Oriental, where an apartment was recently sold for £65 million.
Resident oligarcs don't have to move far for homemade fare, with Russian granny-chic bistro Mari Vanna serving up Siberian Pelmeni and Golubtzi, while Heston Blumenthal's Dinner offers medieval Meat Fruits and Salamagundy from the 1720s (which is approximately the year when you needed to have made your reservation).
