Casa de Cuentos - House of Stories - a picture-perfect place to BE to find your 'story.' Tranquil and mystical, your daydreams and nightdreams here will delight you. Located halfway between the town of Taos and the Taos Ski Valley, our adobe 'home-away-from-home' is private YET close to everything you may want to do while in the Taos area... IF you feel like leaving. (15 minutes to town and 15 minutes to ski.)
As of DEC. 2013: Den has been remodeled/redecorated with enlarged KIVA fireplace, new furniture, Flat screen, BAR and BEER COOLER.
MASTER BATHROOM BEING REMODELED JANUARY 2014--NEW SOAKING TUB and TALAVERA TILED SINK AND WALLS AND FLOORS.
We are convinced you will love our home as much as we do and not care to leave the premises often, yet you could choose to do so with ease. Our hot tub, pool table, movie and book library will provide lots of entertainment. Sit by one of the four Kiva fireplaces to dream stories, tell stories or write stories.
Wood-beamed ceilings, wood and saltillo tiles throughout add to the warmth and tenderness of Casa de Cuentos. There is a separate recreation room area with additional living room and Kiva if one needs space from others while visiting. A beautifully, talavera-tiled breakfast bar sits in-between open kitchen/dining area.
CASA de Cuentos: The main house has 3 bedrooms (a KING bed in master and QUEEN beds in the other two bedrooms) and 2 bathrooms (one with a large shower and the master bathroom has a deep, soaking tub) and a HUGE den with a BAR and BEER COOLER-with extra sleeping space. (Aero beds supplied if needed.) You have fabulous views of the mountains out the north-side: large windows frame the mountains perfectly and let them in to the living/dining area. To the south - you have expansive views of the valley and hot air balloons can be viewed floating eye-level or below in the distance. Daytime: Taos-blue skies during the day and STARS in the night-sky are so close you can touch them while sitting in the hot tub in the courtyard. (I just got out of the hot tub and I need to report there are more stars here than I ever knew existed...it is 'plum' full of stars--as my Grandma used to say.)
Pinons and sagebrush are the native plants that blanket the grounds of Casa de Cuentos and their sweet smells are all of the aromatherapy you will need while at this tranquil adobe. Two outdoor living areas: a deck with a hot tub in N.E. courtyard with new flagstone patio with a built-in fireplace facing the mountains and a new patio on the South-side facing the valley. The NorthEast courtyard has a huge fenced in area (fence is 6-ft. tall) for dogs' pleasure and well-being.
NEW OUTDOOR PATIO AND FIREPIT FALL OF 2013-We provide the wood.
Beginning supplies of: basic spices, laundry soap, shower/bath gel, paper products and firewood all provided.

Guest comment : My husband and I, our two grown daughters, son-in-law and grandson had the best vacation ever at Casa de Cuentes! The home is cozy and warm -- very relaxing and peaceful, comfortably furnished and well maintained. Our family could not have been made to feel more at home. KC, the caretaker, is just as the owner described her -- the 'nicest lady we have ever met'! The views from the living room and dining room windows are spectacular. The location is secluded but also convenient to both town and the ski valley. We will absolutely stay here again.
Guest Comment: A magical place! The photos do not do it justice -- it is serene, romantic, beautiful, peaceful, idyllic... My boyfriend and I were so inspired we decided to get married while we were there! My Mom and brother were so inspired at what we did, they mended relations after years! The magic continues....Thanks to K.C., Tammi and Dave!

Welcome to Casa de Cuentos in Taos! We, the Clancys, purchased our vacation/future retirement home in 2007. We had often visited Taos and enjoyed our short stays. It was during the filming of a short, indie-film for a friend, with Taos as the location, that Tammi declared she wanted to retire in Taos. The Taos magic blessed that statement.
After a bit of remodeling, we decided to try the vacation rental business and we have loved renting our home out for others to enjoy! We have had the most amazing guests and they have all added to the charm of our home. Our lovely caretaker, KC Kierst, watches over our home and our guests while we are in Colorado Springs. If guests need anything, she is there to meet their needs and see to their comfort.
Addendum 2014: WE NOW LIVE HERE! How lucky we are! But, we so love the vacation rental business--that we rent out our 'big' house when we travel. Tammi now teaches at Taos Academy--10th and 8th grades--AND, Dave manages our vacation rentals and keeps the homefires burning!
Views, privacy, luxury and coziness above all!
We spent a wonderfully relaxing month at Casa de Cuentos in the fall of 2009. The private location has great mountain views from the deck, the hot tub or through the large picture windows in the house. We spent a lot of time in the well-equipped kitchen cooking up the fresh food we bought at the Taos Farmers Market. Loved the kiva fireplace for those chilly fall nights at the 7000 foot elevation. When we were not vegging out, the location was a great jumping off point for day trips all around northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Tammi and Dave Clancy are welcoming owners and we could not have asked for friendlier and more helpful caretakers in KC & Kevin Kierst.
The owners are very gracious, attentive but totally not intrusive. The home is lovely and spacious especially for 5 adults (& 1 infant). It was a perfect Christmas trip for us.
We had a wonderful, wonderful time at the Casa de Cuentos in the Land of Enchantment. Tammi and Dave are fantastic and very accommodating. We were having so much fun, we wanted to stay an extra day and hosts made it happen. The house is beautiful. We especially loved Rooster's Bar, the collection of Kiva fireplaces and stargazing from the hot tub at night.
The location is fantastic-close to the ski mountain, Arroyos Seco, and Taos town. We can't recommend this place enough and hope to visit again soon!!!

Tammi and Dave,
Thank you both so very much for sharing your home with our family this Christmas! Every single one of us had the same reaction upon entering for the first time, "WOW"! Not only was everything perfect, we all sensed such a sweet and welcoming presence. I'm not sure I could open my home to strangers, you two have the gift of hospitality. Frank and Izzie loved their gifts from your canine family as well! We will definitely be back and will recommend your home to our friends and family. Thank you again for so much thoughtful attention to each detail of our stay.
God bless you and your family (your family pictures truly touched my heart)
We had a great time in Casa de Cuentos, Taos. Since the day we booked, the owner and her friend that is in charge of the house, sent us a lot of useful information for our trip. The day we arrived the house received us with a cosy ambience and a bottle of red wine, so charming. The house is in excelent conditions, fully equiped and very comfortable. The location is great since its just 15 min to Taos center and best of all, 15 min to Taos Ski Valley. I recommend to visit Río Grande Gorge and all the great natural places that New Mexico offer.
We had a great time at the Casa. It had everything we needed, including a portable crib, high chair, humidifier, fully stocked kitchen, and washer & dryer. Our favorite part was the pool table, though! ;)
This was one of those few perfect vacations! This was our 25th anniversary and we wanted to treat ourselves by going someplace neither of us as been before - - which is tough, as my husband travels 2-3 weeks of every month for work! We wanted somewhere where we would not get caught up in what I call that "tourist chaos" you often find in other vacation spots, somewhere where we could unplug, spread out, relax and get away from the stresses of life. The house was everything the description said it would be. This is clearly was a well-cared for home and not just a rental. Taos and other nearby towns were fun and welcoming - - you could be as busy and sociable as you wanted to be, and there didn't seem to be the division between "locals" and "tourists" that you often find while on vacation. Red River, a nearby ski area, was a wonderful surprise we stumbled on while driving through the mountains. I get the feeling this is a New Mexico secret - - a Breckenridge or Frisco before the rest of the country discovered them. And we enjoyed an afternoon exploring the Rio Grande Gorge from a nearby local access point that Tammi/KC directed us to, rather than the usual ones in the tourist guides. The whole area was stunningly beautiful and the fall colors were a bonus. We sat in the hot tub every evening, let the stars swallow us up and watched the nearly full moon rise. KC and Tammi made sure our every possible need/want was met, including a long list of local hangouts and making sure we were comfortable during a week when temperatures varied widely. We left relaxed, re-energized and ready to face real life again, and we will definitely try to come back.
