ALOHA! Long to get away from the hustle and bustle? Are you ready to RELAX? Then welcome to Paradise! If you love Kauai like we do, you'll love staying in our beachfront condo in Kapaa. We're on the third (top) floor (with elevator) in a corner unit with unobstructed views north south and east. Gorgeous sunrises from our lanai (balcony) and views of the beautiful mile-long sandy beach, with its walking, jogging, bicycle trail.

The Pono Kai Resort is located right in the quaint town of Kapaa. You are walking distance from many stores and restaurants, yet are shielded from road and traffic noise by fifteen acres and several other buildings in the complex. All you'll hear in our condo are the mesmerizing sounds of the ocean and the trade winds breezing through the palm trees.

Kapaa is centrally located with a 40 minute drive north to the end of the road, and another 40-minute drive to Poipu area or an hour's drive to the West end of the road at Polihale.

What makes this condo unique

Quiet, quiet, quiet. The sound of the surf and the trade winds rustling through the palm trees instantly soothes jangled nerves, and puts us in a state of wonderful relaxation.

Central to everything

Gary & Barbara's corner unit on the top floor was clean and had lots of beach accessories and big towels for us to use. During our stay it was very windy so we could only enjoy the lanai a couple times but we loved running and walking along the bike path which is right in front of the condo with breathtaking ocean and coastline views. The herb garden was great to snip fresh basil, chives and rosemary for our stir fry and salads. The cross breeze kept the condo cool at all times. If you want some exercise check out Nounou Mountain (Sleeping Giant). It is a scenic 2 mile hike to the top mostly through forests and not far to drive from the condo. Kuilau Ridge Trail was also beautiful hike through the forest but not so steep but a steady incline to the picnic tables. The resort is well maintained and all staff were very friendly.

This is the life!!

Our month long stay in March was wonderful. Ocean front, corner unit on the top floor!! This unit was very clean with NO mildew odor that seems to be so common with island condos. Kitchen was well stocked with spices and cook ware. Saved a lot of money by cooking in and also using the nearby barbeque. When we felt like eating out we could easily walk to nearby restaurants in Kapaa. I purchased a bike at Walmart and felt secure locking it in the resort's bike rack. At the end of our stay I sold it for half my purchase price to a local bike rental shop. I usually rode the bike path every day. We also used the resort putting green frequently. Although there is no air condition in this unit, there is normally a nice trade wind blowing thru to keep you comfortable. It was nice to have an elevator in the building to bring up our suitcases and groceries. We were very pleased with our extended stay and would highly recommend it to others.

Best place to stay on East side of Kauai!

This was my second stay in Gary & Barbara's condo at PonoKai and it is my favorite! The location of PonoKai, and especially this unit is perfect for me. The privacy and usual quietness of the unit, as well as ocean view, make this ideal. I love being in Kapaa town, close to restaurants and shops, especially quilting stores, Vicky's and Kapaia Stitchery. The Trade winds are wonderful for freshness and cooling most of the time. When VOG blows in, a fan is needed. Gary's unit is stocked with just about everything you could want or need in kitchen or for outdoor excursions. Gary always responds to questions and the local caretakers are responsive and helpful. I would highly recommend this unit for anyone.

Great condo in a great location!

This was our second visit to Gary's Pono Kai condo and hopefully won't be the last. The location is one of the best in the complex- 3rd floor corner unit right on the water. The condo itself is very clean, spacious and bright with a kitchen set up with high quality equipment for any cooking one might wish to do. Staying a month this time we took advantage of that and enjoyed many meals on the scenic lanai watching the moon rise over the water. The complex offers many amenities including a pool snd tennis. The beach out front is suitable for swimming and snorkeling and the condo is right on a 7 mile waterfront walkway (bike rental available next door). Being right in the middle of Old Kapa'a, dining, shopping and groceries are all within a few blocks. Gary, the owner, is great to work with and has a local to handle any questions/problems that may arise. All in all, this is a great condo which we highly recommend!

The description of the unit at Pono Kai is complete - a guest knows exactly what to expect from the rental. We appreciated the fully equipped unit from all the necessary items to the items that make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. On Kauai and in Kapa'a, it is so easy to participate in activities in which the locals participate - concerts, plays, parades, farmers' markets, etc. It is a great unit for the elderly and/or a disability.
