Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Port of Nice - Nice Pebbles: Cognac

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 5

Great for both families and groups, this Nice apartment is an excellent combination of style and amenities. The long balcony at the front provides impressive views of the Park opposite and the collines of Nice in the distance. A practical yet elegant option.

Floor/Building

Up on the fifth floor (don't worry there's a lift) guests can share the treetops with the birds and enjoy lovely sunset views of the Collines. The lift is narrow and three people is a tight squeeze. The owners successfully managed a McClaren's double pushchair with their two infants and one adult into the lift for their two years of living here, but wider pushchairs will not fit.

The owners successfully managed a McClaren's double pushchair with their two infants and one adult into the lift for their two years of living here, but wider pushchairs will not fit.

Neighbourhood

The apartment is situated opposite a pleasant communal park. There are plenty of shops and cafes in the local area and a large Carrefour supermarket is only a few minutes walk away, whilst a bio-supermarket is two minutes walk way.

There is a regular tram service about a five minute walk away which links you directly with the Old Town and the shopping districts of Place Massena and the Carre d'Or. The Port and Old Town are about a 10-15 minutes walk away.

Amenities

Two bathrooms

Balconies with great views

Double-glazed windows

Air-conditioning

Washing machine

Dishwasher

Wi-Fi

Cable TV (50 French channels and some English news channels)

DVD player

Living Area

Like the rest of this Nice holiday apartment, the rooms are tall and elegant but its the small details that brings the apartment to life. The furniture is both intricate and bold. The enormous white leather corner sofa and large walnut coffee table are softened by a colour palette of blues and taupes and more graceful pieces like the overhead chandelier, table lamps, mirrors and framed artwork keeps the space inviting and interesting.

Evenings may well be spent on the balcony enjoying the sparkly view of the Collines but if you prefer to curl up in-front of the box there is a 30' LCD TV with DVD player.

Kitchen

The large wooden dining table takes centre stage. There are four high backed black wooden chairs seated around it, along with a fifth by the window if needed. The wooden units hold a built in fridge and freezer and dishwasher and there is also a microwave, four ring hob and extractor fan.

When dinner is simmering you can step onto the balcony and listen to the laughter of children at play in the park opposite or take in the mountain views.

Bedrooms

The spacious master bedroom with ensuite shower room has a king sized bed, bedside tables and lamps, and a fitted wardrobe. Double glazed French doors open onto a balcony with views of the park and collines of Nice.

The second bedroom has a double bed, bedside tables and lamps, and a large wardrobe. There are French windows that open onto a rear balcony overlooking a large courtyard. The owners didn't have the heart to paint over the fresco that their son had enjoyed so much when living there. Who could blame them? We're sure there'll be hundreds of little guests who will also love counting stars on the ceiling, elephants, bees and monkeys before they go to sleep. Grown ups might like to know there is a full size single bed, drawers and reading lamp in here as well as plenty of storage at the entrance to the room.

Both of the bigger bedrooms will fit a baby cot. Cots can be ordered at checkout on our website. Please see our packages for more details.

Bathroom

Take a book and a towel from the shelving unit and soak in the big-enough-for two Philippe Starck bath. If showers are more your thing, there is a shower over the bath with glass shower screen. Other amenities are the large wash hand basin and toilet as well as towel radiator.

The washing machine is discretely situated inside a cupboard. French doors lead out onto the rear balcony.

The ensuite shower room has two washbasins with large mirrors and a toilet and walk in powerful shower.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Lovely place, handy location for walks, tram and the supermarket. Very spacious and well-presented. Nadia has been a wonderful hostess, making our stay friendly and welcoming. Towards the end of almost three months travelling, it's good to finally unwind in such a nice environment. Take the time to explore the back streets around the apartment, and you'll also enjoy fresh roasted chicken at a very good price! It's been entertaining to find the bus stop for the 100 bus to Menton and Monaco has moved again, but still great value at 1 euro. Pity our local bus service back home isn't run as well and with such good prices! Very enjoyable stay all things considered.

Terrible experience

  • 1 of 5

The standard of the accommodation fell way, way short of the impression given by the website description and particularly the statement “ Sure to be appreciated by connoisseurs of life's finer things “. Internally the whole of the property required a thorough deep clean, decoration was of a poor DIY standard and there were numerous defects throughout including - ineffective air conditioning ; a blocked shower drain that caused the bathroom to flood into the bedroom ; plumbing pipes that banged together so loudly when the shower was used that the neighbours hammered on the door to complain; gouges in walls caused by door handles digging into the plaster ; badly marked furniture ; a broken window ; rusty equipment ; chipped crockery ; saucepans & kitchen knives with broken handles ; grubby cushions and badly stained bed pillows – YUK !

Externally it was even worse - the property was badly neglected being desperately in need of redecoration and a thorough cleaning which certainly didn’t encourage us to sit outside.

The problems were promptly communicated to the head of the rental agency who we subsequently discovered is also the owner of the property. She was apologetic at first and addressed some of the problems however she soon showed her true colours and quickly became rude and sarcastic. To add further insult to injury, unbelievably she asserted that we deliberately caused some of the damage ourselves. Aggrieved by a ruined holiday and the attitude of the rental agency we commenced a battle for compensation and 9 months later they finally agreed a financial settlement. We will never use that rental agency again.

Owner's Response: Sadly, this was indeed a terrible experience. There is plenty to say, but Homeaway limitation on words in this response force us to be brief. On the day of arrival the guest signed our standard check in form confirming all was in order. Within three hours he had demanded a move to something bigger. The next day we received a complaint that the air-conditioning was not working. Investigations revealed he had put this onto the wrong setting. Again he demanded a move. The guest stayed for three weeks. In the 1st week he made numerous complaints. We responded to all, ranging from the picky to the ridiculous. Each day he asked for an upgrade. By day 7 we were exasperated and offered him a refund or a move. He refused, deciding to stay. We heard nothing further until his last day when he sent a demand for compensation. His wife however, called us and thanked us for a great stay. On checking the apartment, we found damage everywhere. He sent us photos of this damage claiming compensation. This was not there before his arrival, or noted by him at check in, or reported in three weeks. The guest wrote demanding compensation but refusing to be bullied by this man, we ignored. He then issued a claim, we defended and noted our counter-claim. We attended mediation to try to remove this man from our lives. Sadly, it appears from this review he will still not let us be. The “settlement” reached resulted in the guest left with thousands of pounds out of pocket in legal expenses, and a claim which was never satisfied. This was because his claim had no merit. This is our first legal dispute in 9 years since the inception of Pebbles. It is a shame that some can try to ruin the reputation of any agency / damage property, as revenge. We felt this man was a bully and got mad when people do not meet his demands, to the point of destroying property. The next guest (arrived the day this man left) sent us two unsolicited emails saying how great the property was. 47 other sets of guests have given very positive feedback. In October 2014, we have made some improvement works. We continue to receive positive feedback. All guests will find a sound, well equipped and clean property to a high standard. Pebbles reputation is solid. We have welcomed 17,000 sets of satisfied guests, won various awards and feature in all major Guide books and national newspapers. Guests can see our Pebbles PRESS pages for more details.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this apartment which was very clean and welcoming. The location was perfect for the port and all other destinations and a lovely walk along the promenade. Everything we needed except a third bedroom

  • 4 of 5

The apartment had everything we needed except a third bathroom, but two bathrooms were good enough for our party of five adults. One adult had to sleep in the children’s bedroom, although he did hear the noise of the lift a little in the morning. Sitting on the balcony in the daytime, we also heard the children playing in the park opposite, but again this didn’t bother us too much. We would have liked an egg timer, an alarm clock and one of the knives was now a little blunt. Apart from that the kitchen was very well stocked as was the rest of the apartment. We did appreciate the books and the DVDs. We thought we would miss a clothes dryer but the washing line on the back balcony was fine and clothes dried very quickly in the sunshine. We were hear for three weeks and were very comfortable and have already mentioned your apartment to our friends. The agency was very efficient and no issues there.

Spacious stylish apartment with the wow factor

  • 5 of 5

On entering Cognac one quickly realises that the pics on the Nice Pebbles website just don't do it justice. It's beautiful! Stylish, yet we felt totally at home.It is so perfect we almost felt that we could have spent the whole holiday just staying in the apartment!

it is very central.....Hop on a bus and you can be back in Central Nice in minutes or venture further afield to the lovely village of Eze or visit the magic that is Monaco. Just a ten minute stroll brings you into the port where the millionaires moor their yachts and you can gaze at them with awe.

All the staff at Nice Pebbles are very helpful, eager to share with you their favourite places to visit or eat in, some off the beaten track, little gems. Their local knowledge is second to none. This personal touch is something you don't get with other holiday firms.

I've since stayed in another of Nice Pebbles' apartments and the standards are always of the highest and I don't hesitate to recommend them to anyone who wants top quality accomodation and friendly helpful staff.

Sehr hochwertig ausgestattete Wohnung

  • 5 of 5

Sehr gute Lage also.
