Bangor also has a large casino if you like to gamble
The camp was really super. The owners took care of all our questions and needs. It has wonderful views of the smaller part of the lake. My daughter and 7 yr old grandson used the kayaks often and my grandson and I used the canoe to go fishing(you can get a fishing license at Toots Deli/Subway in town). The swim area is a little rocky but a pair of swim shoes made it fine. Lots of ducks and loons around and we had a large blue heron on our dock one morning. The area in front of the camp is large, with lots of seating and a fire pit if you want. The BBQ grill came in very handy and the front deck was wonderful.
The public beach is very close and we went over one day so my grandson could play at the playground, make some new friends swimming, and to get an ice cream at the beach take out/restaurant.
We had a wonderful time. We would rent here again. My lovely wife said "it is a camp, but we felt very much at home all week".
This home was clean and comfortable. It felt very large and they have made great use of every single space inside. The lake is really as close as the pictures make it look. I was able to hear my children playing and swimming from inside the house which gave them a ton of playing time. The canoe and kayaks were awesome, my two youngest girls learned how to kayak this vacation and they did a lot of fishing with their grandmother. It is a little far away from things so if you take a day trip, it is just that a day trip. But this was no problem! Even on the rainy days there were plenty of things to fill my girls day and they all said we should move there HAHAHA. The owners were fabulous and available to answer any questions we had. The neighbors are very friendly even when the door got left open and my dog decided to introduce himself to the whole neighborhood. There are two ice cream shops right next door which my youngest daughter loved and one of them rents canoes and kayaks if the whole family wanted to go together. The has great fishing and was perfect for beginner or experienced kayakers. Thank you so much and I do plan to return.
The house was nice, the kitchen was very workable and had a lot of space! The views were beautiful and they did a great job making sure that you had a view of the lake from every point in the house. The area was nice, although the town does shut down around 8pm, but there's a Dunkin Donuts about 2 minutes away which is always an added bonus! Easy ride to Bangor.
The walk down to the lake was steep, which made it complicated for one of us who has trouble walking (up stairs or hills), but since it wasn't warm we weren't swimming anyways. Also, very limited TV channels. The internet worked well but we did have to plug in, which is no big deal, and thankfully they have a few very long cables and connection plugs everywhere. I was there for work so this was very necessary!
The house is on a main road and it can be noisy, and there are neighbors on either side, so if you were looking to be far, far away, this house is not tucked away. It worked for me because I needed to drive into Bangor every morning, but I had envisioned a more remote location.
Loved that we could bring our two dogs! I hate leaving my dogs at a shelter and I loved that they could be with us. The house was clean, which I was so thankful for because sometimes places that allow pets can have that pet "smell", but not here. I'm very allergic to dogs and cats (I know, but I love them!) so I was worried that I might have a reaction but I was perfectly fine.
You definitely have to eat at two places in Newport (about 20-25 minutes away). One would be Anglers, an amazing seafood place with awesome, awesome pies! And the other is a little Mexican restaurant that if you blink, you'll miss it, and it's called Cervesas. Awesome Mexican food and really, really good margaritas.
Also in Bangor about 40 minutes away there is a movie theater (really nice) and a big shopping mall with an LL Bean outlet.
All in all it was a comfortable trip and I wish I was still sitting on the deck looking at the lake, instead of where I am right now, inside my little cubicle.
My family of 4 and dog had a great time. House described accurately, but it felt a bit bigger than it actually is. The deck off the main house was great for morning coffie and breadfast, dinner and just for relaxing and having a cocktail. Everything was clean and in good condition. Plenty of amenities onsite to keep the kids happy and entertained. Just bring a few of your own items and your good. Kids enjoyed bunking in the day basement. We even had visitors for a couple of days and found the space very accomodating. Everything you may want is either in walking distance or a very short drive. Kids loved the fishing and the lake, as did the adults. Plenty of shade or sun depending on your preference, friendly neighbors (our dog went visiting once or twice), dock, raft and nice firepit. In and hour you can easily get to Bangor and some surrounding areas for day trips. Would definately book it again.
Near Bangor for airport and services, near gateway to North Maine Woods, Near Ocean on a Great Freshwater lake. What more could you want?? We can provide a car or airport pick up.
Other Activities: skydiving ,white water rafting, Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Then WOW as that wasn't enough we are 35 minutes from the Bangor Maine waterfront. Nightly concerts and the American Folk Festival a Casino with Slots and table games and more..... check out both http://www.waterfrontconcerts.com/about and http://www.americanfolkfestival.com
