Villa Aaron is a newly built villa with private swimming pool, located against a hillside looking out toward the bay of the beautiful fishing village of Bali and to the south, to the mountains on the northwest coast of Crete. The large town of Rethymnon is 25 km away.
Villa Aaron is located at the foot of the Kouloukonas mountains, wonderful for walking and bird watching. In the spring, there is a plethora of wildflowers.
The valley inclines quietly down to the cute fishing village of Bali, where there are shops and tavernas.
From the villa, Bali is only a few minutes drive away through the olive orchards. In Bali there are many water sports such as water skiing, canoeing, and diving.
And all of this in a quiet holiday atmosphere.
400 m away there is a 5 star hotel with restaurants, bars and spa options.
The villa is located on a property of 1000 m2, and offers a spectacular view of the mountains and the Bay of Bali from its 5 balconies, and has room for 7 persons to sleep.

We stayed at the villa for 9 days in July 2012 and had a great time. The villa is a fantastic property which simply cannot be faulted! The villa is well equipped and in very good shape.
Downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen (including dishwasher), a living/TV room (with two sofas which can be converted into beds), a bathroom with shower, and a storage room (with washing machine). Upstairs there is a master bedroom (with double bed), another bedroom with three beds and a bathroom with shower. Kitchen, living room and bedrooms are all equipped with air-conditioning.
Outside, the villa is also spacious. The private swimming pool is about 6 by 4 meter. The pool is about 1,5 meter deep over its entire length, except for an undeep corner for sitting or for children to play safely. There is a separate patio area in the garden with a table. We made good use of the stone BBQ and enjoyed an outside BBQ on two evenings. Although the villa is one of four attached villas, it is the highest of the four villas so there is sufficient privacy in the garden.
The view from the garden and the bedrooms towards the bay of Bali and the mountains is really spectacular. The master bedroom has a terrace and the other bedroom even has two terraces.
The villa is a five minute uphill drive from Bali, driving through the village of Vlychada, with a short unpaved part just before reaching the villa. The road up is somewhat steep at places, so be prepared to switch back to 2nd gear if you are driving a small car like we did. There is space for at least two cars on the private driveway. Walking up from Bali is possible but could be quite exhausting in the summer sun.
The villa is in a really quiet location. It is much less busy than beach-side Bali, which has that typical beach town feeling with all necessary tourist amenities like small supermarkets, tavernas, bars, souvenir shops,...
Since Bali is roughly halfway between Heraklion (capital and airport) and the other major city of Rethymno, it is a good starting point to explore the island. The furthest point we visited was Elafonsi in the Southwest corner of the island. Although it is about a 2,5 hour drive away (with nice scenery along the mountain roads), we recommend visiting fabulous Elafonsi beach.
In summary, everything was as expected and at many points exceeded our expectations. The local caretakers were very friendly and were genuinely concerned about making our stay as enjoyable as possible.
The only deviation from the online description was the absence of a WiFi internet access point. However, there is an internet cafe in Bali where you connect for two euro per hour and many tavernas offer free WiFi. If you are more old-fashioned and like to keep in touch with your home country by listening to your shortwave radio, this is not an option as some source of radio interference wipes out all shortwave reception at the villa’s location.
