Enjoying a sunny elevated hillside location overlooking the picturesque resort town of Varenna, this modern family-friendly retreat (ID 1026) provides the ideal escape on Lake Como.

The spacious duplex property is situated in an exclusive new residence which boasts breath taking views and even a shared swimming pool to enjoy!

On reaching the beautifully presented holiday home a secure gated entry opens into a sunny and inviting garden area which includes a small forecourt perfect for parking a car.

Guests can enjoy the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the modern open plan ground floor layout which features a newly fitted kitchen, a stylish dining area for up to 6 and a comfortable sitting area with sofa and flat screen TV. French doors lead directly out to the sunny covered terrace with a covered awning and a pretty bordered lawn. The views from here will leave guests utterly spell bound; with a far reaching backdrop including Varenna and Menaggio.

Inside the property from the ground floor living area, a flight of 13 steps leads to the first floor of the property which comprises the sleeping accommodation.

The large master bedroom boasts a high beamed ceiling, a comfortable double bed and even direct access to a private lake view balcony! The second bedroom also features a romantic high beamed ceiling with a set of twin single beds which can be joined to form a double if required.

Additional guests may also be accommodated to the comfortable sofa bed which is provided to the downstairs living area.

The property further features two modern fitted bathrooms with a power shower to one and a bathtub and shower tap to the principal suite.

Outside the garden features a breakfast table to the patio which is ideal for enjoying an evening aperitif and a BBQ also provides the perfect excuse for a relaxed lunch or dinner, with a large alfresco dining table and chairs provided for guests’ enjoyment. Sun loungers also provide the ideal way in which to enjoy the beautiful views, with a good book and a glass of wine!

As well as enjoying the sunny private garden and the resident outdoor swimming pool, guests can also easily access the breath taking mountainside roads, which lead to spectacular vistas and onto the Piani di Bobbio Ski resort.

** Guests please note that there is a private road running between the apartment building and the communal swimming pool.

Perledo is situated just a 5 minute drive from the famous lakeside resort town of Varenna.

Varenna:

Varenna is the place to get away from it all, but also be in touch with the rest of the Lake. For the romantics, the historians or for those who love peace, tranquillity and a history that goes back thousands of years this is the place.Varenna is an ancient fishing village with close to 1000 residents spread along a steep hillside overlooking Lake Como.

Varenna, built on a rock at the foot of a mountain is a boat stop from Bellagio on the east side of the lake and though popular it escapes the throngs in Bellagio (undeniably lovely, but like many other undeniably lovely places the crowds, higher prices and ‘tourist trap’ experiences can be very trying). Varenna dates from the 5th century - you can still see in places the original Roman layout of the town: a geometric design which allows wonderful views of the lake.

The reds, terracottas and yellows of its houses, its mild climate and the olive and cypress trees make you wonder whether you aren’t 200km further south. After the nearby island of Comancina was destroyed the population increased and flourished. The warring factions, as with much of Lombardy saw Varenna at odds with Como on many occasions and the rule of Varenna pass in typical Italian family tradition from the Visconti family to the Sfondrati's. Today Varenna is a lovely spot to chill out, although be aware that shops and even restaurants have been known to shut for lunch, so expect the better things in life to take longer.

Varenna is one of the most beautiful towns on the lake, its steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. In the evenings, the village is serene and picturesque. Truly a perfect place for relaxing. This is an understatement! The warmth of the locals combined with the perfect setting of the place, would melt the coldest hearts of the most demanding travellers.

Looking down on Varenna is the ancient Castle of Vezio; where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, is said to have died in the 7th century. Today, you can enjoy Falconry displays, the tower which is accessible, thanks to a drawbridge and the underground passages dating back to the First World War. The panoramic views are fabulous from the castle & there is also a restaurant where you can enjoy local cuisine. There are also numerous well marked hiking paths around Castello Vezio.

This old fishing village has several very interesting shops; from local butchers to craft shops and bars, as well as many restaurants ranging from simple but fabulous pizzerias and trattorias, to elegant dining experiences with lake views. Varenna offers excellent rail links to Milan & Venice! Plus there are ferry links to all the gorgeous villages & towns along Lake Como's shores; it makes a great base for exploring the area.

Here guests can easily access Lecco and Milan by train as well being able to get to Bellagio, Cadenabbia and Menaggio by car and passenger ferry.

Varenna is famously known as the ‘Porto Fino’ of Lake Como, due to its romantic vistas and timeless medieval appeal. Guests can enjoy wining and dining at one of the many restaurants or can enjoy exploring the cobbled old town, which leads past boutique shops and cafes, to breath-taking secret vistas and the famous Villa Monastero visitor attraction.

The ancient visitor highlight of Castello di Vezio, with its frequent re-enactments, banquets and falconry displays is also well worth exploring and can be reached by way of a woodland hillside walk from the town.

Golf:

There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min. by car. Tel: +39 344 321 03. Green Fees: Weekdays €55, Weekends and Holidays €70 Euros; Golf Cart Rental €36.

Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).

Skiing:

This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibilty and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.

There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.

There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.

The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass which is approx.100km.
