Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Flushing - Bookends
Sleeps up to 5 in 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and WiFi
Played against the backdrop of Cornwall's dramatic but unforgettable landscape, this exquisite cottage offers the keys to a magic kingdom. Set within the gorgeous village of Flushing, 'Bookends' is ideally suited to families of up to five, offering the home comforts that any modern household aspires to, but allowing them to be sampled in an atmosphere of serenity and beauty.
The charming sky-blue exterior, with its delightfully framed stable door, leads directly into the sitting room. Light and airy during the warm summer months, this room also hosts a wood burning stove, set within a period fireplace, that creates a cosy atmosphere during the colder autumnal nights. The comforts are right up to the minute, though. The flat screen television, tastefully built into the corner, offers a splendid picture, with Freeview and a DVD player on hand to provide the content. (Wi-fi is also available throughout.) Luscious leather seating allows up to five to let their hair down in luxury.
The living room gives you access to the sizeable kitchen and dining area. Awash in natural light thanks to the strategically positioned roof-window, this is the perfect spot for light conversation and glorious food, and the separate dining area houses an elegant table, with room to comfortably seat six. The breakfast bar guides you into the kitchen itself, with its substantial range-style cooker. Fresh seafood is never more than a few minutes away, and seasoned chefs and novice cooks alike will enjoy finding new twists on the local produce. Should you want to give the work a rest, exceptional fare is available from the renowned Waterside restaurant, while the Seven Stars (next door) and Royal Standard pubs provide plenty of refreshment. The kitchen also houses a capacious fridge freezer, while a dishwasher sees to the crockery. A washing machine and excellent ground floor shower room are also available.
For those who can't bear to stay away from the sun-drenched Cornish outdoors, the kitchen leads into a serene and private paved courtyard. Here, you can gaze up at the clouds as you sit at the table, or make use of the barbecue equipment for a more rousing night out-in.
Stairs take you up to the second floor, where two exceptional bedrooms await. Adults will be captivated by the secluded yet invigorating master bedroom. The colour scheme has been carefully selected to make you feel totally relaxed and chilled. At the same time, pieces of antique furniture add charm and warmth. There's also an excellent en-suite bathroom with WC, sink, and large bath.
The second bedroom would be perfect for the younger members of the family, and its suitably action-packed décor makes it one of the more boisterous parts of the house. The double bed and bunk make for a flexible arrangement that can support up to three, while the sizeable wardrobe offers ample storage capacity. The windows offer a look over the charming architecture of Flushing, and the gaggle of cottages outside are picture-postcard pretty.
For a county that shows off its beauty to such breathtaking effect, Cornwall has no shortage of hidden gems. As such, this cottage's idyllic setting gives you the perfect launching pad from which to excavate the stuff that dreams are made on. The local village of Flushing proved such a draw for Dutch sailors, that of the countless Queen Anne houses they built, most remain today, giving the area an architectural flavour that marks it apart from its neighbours. Not that you should ignore the latter. With its exhilarating water sports activities, and wild coastal walks, Mylor is a popular village. Penryn, too, with a coating of history covering almost every inch.
Take the brief ferry ride across the water, and you'll be in Falmouth, and within easy reach of its array of eateries and other amusements - including the impressive pair of Henrician castles, Pendennis and St Mawes. From there, it's easy to journey to the gorgeous natural landscape of Trelissick, and the cathedral city of Truro and beyond. However far you wish to tunnel into Cornwall's beautiful and arresting sights, you're bound to treasure the days or weeks spent in its presence with a trip to Bookends.
