De BroeksterMaar is established in a centuries-old farm tucked away behind trees and bushes in a wonderful, quiet spot in a farming area in the North-western part of the province of Groningen. It is located in an agricultural area, between the villages Kloosterburen, Wehe-den Hoorn, Eenrum and Pieterburen. De BroeksterMaar offers you a 4 persons luxury apartment “De Peerdestal” (The Horse stable). The Horsestable is in fact an extra big hotel room for 2 persons, with an extra sleeping area for another 2 persons and fully equipped kitchen/dining room (dishwasher). It has flatscreen-TV (satellite) and audio/video/DVD-equipment. The Horsestable has its own terrace.
The apartment is part of a beautiful converted farm-house with numerous facilities. De BroeksterMaar is situated at the Broekstermaar, a very quiet stream which was once part of the watercourse of the Hunze river. Many centuries ago, when this landscape still resembled the present Wadden area, these ‘maars’ were the channels between islands and sandbanks.
De BroeksterMaar directly leads to canoe and fishing water and the surroundings are perfect for biking and hiking. Organising a hiking trip in the Wadden or renting a canoe or bike, we are happy to arrange this for you. From the harbour of Lauwersoog the ferry leaves for the island Schiermonnikoog; a daytrip to ‘Schier’ is a memorable event. Pieterburen where you will find among other things the seals nursery and the botanical garden ‘Domies Toen’ (the pastors garden) is at the short distance of fifteen minutes by bike. The National Park ‘Lauwersmeer’ is nearby and worthwhile to visit any time of the year. Of course, you’ll have to see ‘De Theefabriek’ (the Tea Factory) museum in Houwerzijl and the ancient Verhildersum manor in Leens. The documentation in your apartment will bring you to dozens of other places of interest and various restaurants in the surroundings.
