Indeed, Jean Bertrand Piémore, Comte de Sault in 1614 exercised the functions Gruyer woods and forests for the King. Puymaure that was spelled in four different ways, is a height at the top of which was built a fortress designed to keep Catholics respect and the need to defend the city against external attacks.
Begun in 1580, this fortress was completed in 1621 and demolished in 1632 by order of Richelieu.
