Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in St John's Wood - Penfold Street

2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home with the buzz of Edgware Road around the corner

Flight test

You don’t have to soar back in time to see that Penfold Street is up to its rafters in history. Once, Spitfires were assembled under these high ceilings, soon to whizz off to wage war against the common foe. Nowadays, with propellers having given way to peace, everything is calm – and coolly bohemian with it. Exposed beams span the spaces overhead, spotlights gleam off polished antiques and trendy textures drape both sofa and floor. Super stylish, bigger than a barrage balloon, this home will have you dancing on cloud nine – and no reconnaissance will be required to find London’s unique whirr nearby.

Pilots

Following its Spitfire days, this home was converted by Italians into the Manhattan-style loft you see now. Somewhat appropriately, your hosts are New Yorkers! You’ll spot their taste for Asian art played out in each impressive room.

Above and beyond

The scale and panache of this home will be obvious even to those lacking a head for heights. Get ready to gasp at the spectacular open-plan sitting room, its exposed metal beams hosting constellations of shining spotlights. In the red-accented kitchen brew some silken coffee before nesting into a sofa and drinking in your surroundings. Vintage chairs perch beside shelves a-groan with books, bohemian goodies squat on polished surfaces and Asian artefacts excite eager eyes.

Veer round to the first floor bedroom, all bright white walls and a sprucely attired double bed, or glide into the bathroom, calmly clad in blue. The spiral staircase dates from the nineteenth century, when it was part of a tube station, and now you can climb it to the mezzanine and master bedroom. An ottoman, wall-mounted TV and crisp double bed make this an elegant eyrie, and you’ve an aerial view of the main space below.

Hitting the ground running

You’re just off Edgware Road, flanked by Middle Eastern eateries and independent shops, and just round the corner sits the Showroom Gallery, launchpad for London’s emerging artists. Pick out a bargain in Church Street Market, track the canal into Regent’s Park or take to the waters in picturesque Little Venice. If you’re looking to make a landing in the West End, follow the bright lights or just hop on the tube. From Edgware Road you can be in Oxford Circus in just seven minutes.

What makes this house unique

Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room, with online payment and confirmation. You get the same attention to detail and personal service too.

Every home is properly cleaned before and after you stay, beds made (we can even do hospital corners) and bathrooms kitted out with luxury toiletries. There’s a maid service if you want it, as well as other hotel-style amenities.

Once we’ve helped you settle in, we’re just a call away, 24/7. If it’s something we can’t solve over the phone, we’ll pop over to lend a hand.

And because nobody wants to be a tourist, our homes come with personal and unique recommendations from the people who live in them – places to eat, things to do and adventures to go on.

Notes:
A welcome pack will be provided on arrival and an iPhone will be available for you during the duration of your stay. Home truths: The storage space for both bedrooms is not in the bedrooms. Care will need to be taken on the mezzanine level when staying in the home. There are steel girders crossing the bedroom, which are clearly shown in our images. There is a day care centre next door and during the day you can hear noise in the front hallway. The spiral staircase leading up to the mezzanine level is from an 18th century tube station. It may feel a little unsteady but it's perfectly safe.
