About Joanna Gardner
We are a family of four and live in Southern California. While we enjoy the benefits of the city we enjoy getting away from it all when we go on vacation. We have been enjoying the splendors of the North Shore for over a decade. We joke that we bought our house in Kauai as an insurance policy so our kids will always want to vacation with us -- even when they are teenagers! They love being so close to the beach and go there every day when we're on island. We love snorkeling, boogie boarding, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, hiking and running. The kids also love to play in the large private yard. And we all love having plenty of room to invite our friends and family to come share our corner of paradise. It's great to have so much space to BBQ or venture out to one of the terrific local restaurants or best of all, a beach picnic at sunset!

Why Joanna Gardner chose Haena
We fell in love with Hale Alealea the moment we saw it and hope you will too. The location across from the beach offers peak-a-boo ocean views, tranquil breezes and the peaceful sounds of crashing waves. Hale Alealea combines this with the privacy of sitting one property away from the beachfront. The 15K sq' street-to-street lush private lot gives us beautiful tropical grounds to enjoy from so many covered and uncovered lanais, balconies & patios. The comfortable, spacious house is the perfect size for family and friends. From the comfort of indoors we can enjoy the views from many large windows, skylights and sliding glass doors. We also love relaxing on the covered lanai, watching the waves through the swaying coconut palms, listening to the sounds of the trade winds, soothing waves or cooling sun showers.
What makes this house unique
It's hard to leave this tropical oasis yet it is so close to the best snorkeling, surfing and hiking on the island. Checking the surf each morning with a cup of coffee in hand, followed by a walk around the gardens is a great start to a day. The house is so calm and private - yet you feel the rest of island calling with its adventures, whenever you are ready to explore. When you return, a soothing outdoor shower awaits. Watching the sunset, while grilling a fabulous dinner - a perfect day in paradise!
Guestbook comments from the owner
Now back home for a little over 24 hours. It is a bit of a shock coming back to the cold Pacific Northwest. I just wanted you to know how much we enjoyed our stay at your home. It is absolutely beautiful and we were filled with the energy that is Kauai. Thanks for renting your house and sharing your art, photos, ect. I was particularly moved by the vast number of stars visible at night. I was able to do my physical therapy routine (had hip procedure last Sept) outside in your wonderful yard, spend sometime meditating and reading and posturing my tiny place in the universe as I lay outside looking at the stars and listening to the surf. Just great!
Also we were witness to the awesome power of nature as seen in the 40-50 ft. waves a few days ago. Wow, I have seen some big waves before but nothing like that. No snorkeling this time but the majesty of the ocean was in full view.
