We retired here from the 'Heartbeat' village of Goathland on the North York Moors but retain an apartment in Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire. We have a cat 'Sky' and a gentle giant of an Irish Wolfhound 'Charlotte'. We moved here seven years ago in a motor home with dog, cat and parrot (now deceased!).
Coming from Yorkshire we were drawn to the green of the mountain and found the pace of life here reminiscent of life in England when we were young.
We fell in love with the unbelievable views across the rolling hills to the coast below. At night we can see the lights twinkling all along the shoreline, it is quite magical. It is so peaceful here, no traffic noise, and although we are ten minutes out of the town we are not isolated. In the heat of summer it is such a relief to be a few degrees cooler than the coast, although we do still get temperatures in the 30's. An additional bonus is that eating out is much cheaper on the mountain. Our lovely neighbors are a mixture of nationalities including Portuguese. People 'live' on the mountain, not just holiday here.
