A family holiday house for nature lovers,10 mins from Marbella in National Park

With glorious mountain views and a glimpse of the lake, the architect designed house stands in 2 acres of wild gardens, within a terraced orchard of olive, almond and fruit trees. It is situated halfway between Istán and Marbella, above the lake (Embalse de La Concepción) and below the carretera de Istán.

The private and tranquil La Palmera is reached via the scenic winding mountain road and an unmade private road. A steep drive brings you into the wonderfully untamed garden, bright with wild flowers in spring and home to 47 olive trees and 42 fruit and almond trees. Informal footpaths twist and turn through the grounds to the private pool with poolside bar. Some 100 metres from the cottage, a track from the house leads to the shore of the lake, which is visible from the bedrooms and higher terraces. Inside, La Palmera has a country style kitchen/dining room with access to one of the outside terraces for outside dining, a sitting room with an open fire and large French windows, which lead out onto the south facing terrace. A large shower room is also provided on this floor. A spiral staircase leads to the upper floor with three bathrooms tastefully furnished in cool colours. The master bedroom has a double bed and en suite bathroom, and a full suite bathroom for the other two bedrooms, one twin, one double. To the front and back of the house are large paved terraces. A few metres away in the garden there is a guest house containing a fourth bedroom with two double bunk beds. The house has TV and is fully equipped for holiday rentals with no shared facilities.

Note: A kayak is available for use on the lake by private arrangement with the owners.

10 minutes drive to Marbella and Puerto Banus and also the rural village of Istan.

About Lucinda Norreys

Lucinda Norreys moved to Spain as a child and was brought up on a farm in the Spanish countryside, living between Andalusia and Chelsea London. Born into an international family, her Cuban mother, a writer and her late American step father,a sculptor and painter, she grew up in a home filled with well known personalities of the time. After working in New York and London, Lucinda returned to Marbella to raise her own family in 2002. After 13 years and prompted by a desire to recreate her own rural childhood, she moved with her two young sons to the beautiful village of Istan. Inspired by the dramatic landscape and eager to share this with close friends, she began purchasing houses in the village, renovating and renting them. It was during that period that she discovered the jewel that was to become La Palmera.

Its proximity to Marbella, Puerto Banus and several elegant beaches, as well as picturesque mountain villages meant there was plenty to do, whatever the season.
