|Minimum Stay||3 - 5 nights|
Located just steps away from Madrid's Puerta del Sol emblematic center, this fourth floor, top-floor apartment belongs to Spain Select Carretas, an exclusive apartment building of 8 Spain Select Signature Apartments. Spain Select Carretas puts Madrid's most important attractions within walking distance. In less than five minutes, visitors can step out of the apartment building and walk directly to the city's famous Plaza Mayor, the centrepiece of what is known as Austrian Madrid. Just beyond the Plaza, visitors can continue walking to the Royal Palace and the Cathedral of the Almudena. The Puerta del Sol is one of the most well-known and busiest places in Madrid. This famous square is where the clock hangs that rings in the New Year in Spain, prompting Spaniards to eat a grape for each of the twelve chimes. Adjacent to the square is the Preciados Shopping District, which includes several buildings of an "El Corte Inglés" department store. Crowded with tourists and locals by day, the area is still lively in the evenings as there are many restaurants, cafés and bars nearby. Just a short distance away is the Plaza de Santa Ana, where there are many terraces for outdoor dining. As the geographic centre of the city, the Puerta del Sol has excellent metro and bus communications, and the Atocha train station is a 15-minute walk or just three metro stops away. Spain Select Carretas is to all effects a new building, yet it maintains a perfectly restored traditional façade. As a top-floor, exclusive apartment, Carretas 401 has extremely high ceilings in its living room, spotlighting exposed beams. This space is very bright, with a large window on one flank and a Velux window on the ceiling. There are further Velux windows on the low ceilings of the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen, each of which offers wonderful views of the rooftops of the surrounding neighbourhood. The décor throughout the apartment has been chosen by a professional interior designer, and it is bright and modern. Please note that due to this being an attic apartment, the ceiling is very low in some areas, particularly in the kitchen, bathroom & bedroom. The building has an elevator, but there is a small staircase situated just in front of the lobby. Surface Area: 50 m2. Fourth floor. The entrance leads into a living / dining area furnished with a 3-seater sofa, two side tables, a wooden coffee table, a shelving unit with an LCD TV, DVD player and a wooden dining table for four. There is a double bedroom (queen-sized bed 1.50m x 2.00m) with an en suite bathroom that has a walk-in shower. The kitchen is equipped with a small refrigerator, oven, 2-ring ceramic hob (stove) and a washing machine.
The apartment is exactly as described. While it is definitely difficult to negotiate some areas due to the low ceilings, as described in other reviews, you really cannot get a better location in Madrid than this. For that reason, we would definitely stay there again. Another positive consideration is that the management company was great about communicating with us prior to the trip. However, we did have one problem during check in. When they tried to swipe our credit cards for the deposit, it kept saying it was denied. However, we had a hold show up on 2 of our accounts. While the hold was ultimately released, we still had to pay in cash which caused us to be short of cash. Other than this problem I would have given the management company 5 stars.
