In the heart of Holborn, with Oxford Street one way and Covent Garden the other, Macklin Street is invigoratingly quiet. The walls are white, the artwork assured and, on seeing the patio’s wicker chairs and wandering flowers, you’ll be soothed in spirit and then some. For style, try the antique dining table and fine original floorboards, for serenity, turn to the gigantic corner sofa and skylight. Home truths: Your host's cleaner, Rose, will visit on Friday mornings for four hours. The window in the double bedroom faces directly onto the street. It is frosted so private but there can be some noise especially in the morning after 8 am when Londoners are on their way to work. However, generally Macklin Street is a quiet with no through traffic.
