2 Bedroom Converted Farmhouse with Small Private Pool and Terrace

The Stonehouse is a converted 2 bedroom detached farm house nestled in the hillside with private swimming pool and secluded south facing terrace with panoramic view across tree tops towards Portimão, where the sea can be seen glistening on the horizon, yet is just minutes from the quaint market town of Monchique offering all the local amenites, restaurants, cafes and bars, with the added benefit of being only a 25 minute drive from the south coast beaches, or 35 minutes from the more secluded and picturesque west coast beaches.

The Stonehouse offers comfort, space, character and as much seclusion as you desire. Restaurants and traditional bars are a few minutes drive away or make use of the stone BBQ on the terrace or fully equipped kitchen.

Entering through the kitchen to the spacious living room with dining table, 4 dining chairs, sofa, 2 arm chairs, TV, Cd player & wood burning stove you can continue to enjoy the panoramic view.

Adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen which has a full electric cooker, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, Iron & board is the single bedroom.

Downstairs is the double bedroom (5ft wide bed) & bathroom (bath with shower over bath) toilet and basin, also housing a washing machine. All ground floor windows are fitted with fly screens.

Across the terrace is a small private swimming pool, perfect for cooling off on those gloriously hot sunny days! or just relax and enjoy the view in the shade of the old olive tree,

A patio table, parasol, 4 chairs, 3 sun loungers and stone BBQ are provided. Terraced gardens with wasing line. Hillside secluded location with stunning view.

For the winter months oil filled radiators are provided.

There is a weekly maid service

We purchased the Stonehouse in 2007 having spent a wonderful holiday there to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary.

We have continued to rent the property since we bought it and regularly visit to ensure the upkeep of the property is maintained.

Why Mark & Sharon Jenkins chose Monchique region

Having never visited Portugal before we stayed at the Stonehouse to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and fell in love with the house, location and area. As fate had it, it turned out that the property was for sale, so on a whim we decided it was to good a chance to miss and bought it!

The Stonehouse offers seclusion and privacy yet is within close proximaty to the quaint market town of Monchique that has all the amenities one requires when on holiday - cafes, restaurants, fruit/veg market, bank, chemist, butchers, souvenir shops and supermarket.

The view over the 'valley' towards Portimão and the south coast, just made us want to own this best of both worlds, seclusion but without being isolated. It is an ideal base to explore both the southern & western area of the Algarve,

Amanda and I are gradually coming back down to earth after another wonderful week at the Stonehouse. We were blessed by lovely weather (around 26-28 degrees - in the shade of the olive tree!) and apart from a couple of day trips we really did not feel the need to venture very far. In fact the best part about going out was coming back again to relax on the terrace, dip in the pool and admire the view! We love Monchique and the surrounding area, and think the Stonehouse itself is a very special place indeed, so many thanks for making it available.

Our escape to a little bit of paradise.

The Algarve is a wonderful holiday destination with some superb beaches, bustling resorts and, above all else, peace and tranquillity. Our stay at the Stonehouse in the Monchique Mountains had this in abundance, with easy access to anything else you might need.

Once we had settled ourselves into the delightful Stonehouse with it’s gorgeous terrace, fantastic views and the pool to cool off in when we became too warm, we found it very difficult to tear ourselves away, and only managing the odd walk of which there are lots. We did however manage to drag ourselves out for a few meals in the Monchique area where there are some charming little Restaurants, and even if you do have a relaxing holiday as we did, you must have at least one little wander around Monchique to savour the laid back life style of these very friendly people.

We simply cannot wait for the chance to return!

Perfect getaway holiday location

Ideal location and setting situated in the hills of Monchique. Waking up every morning to a perfect view of the hills and sea in the distance and eating breakfast on the terrace (even in early November was 18C at 8.30am) was the best start to each day!

This location is perfect whether you want to just chill in one location or go exploring (we did a bit of both!).

The house is a short drive from many different places to visit ranging from Silves Castle to the tranquil setting of Caldas de Monchique to the fantastic views on both the west and south coasts.

There are also a large number of local eateries within a short distance catering for both local and world cuisines (the Piri Piri Chicken and Deep Fried Quail at nearby Foz da Banho was to die for!)

The nights that we didn't eat out, we managed to get food in the local supermarket in Monchique (approx 10 min drive) and cooked in the house which has a well equipped kitchen or on the barbeque on the terrace!

Overall, the house was very clean and, judging by the decoration, very well loved by the owner. With a decent sized modern bathroom and a wood burnging stove in the living room, it felt like a home from home.

We will definitely be returning again in the near future and would highly recommend this holiday home - thank you for such a great holiday!

Compleet appartement met uitzicht

Het huis en de patio zijn heerlijk. De olijfboom op de patio zorgt ervoor dat er ieder moment van de dag schaduw is. Het huis is fijn ingericht en van alle gemakken voorzien. Het was heerlijk om te koken, eten, drinken, lezen en een spelletje doen. Ana Paula is een lieverd en op uitnodiging een gezellige gesprekspartner. De mensen in de restaurants in Monchique en vlakbij het huis waren erg gastvrij voor ons en onze kleine dochter.
Het huis ligt afgelegen maar het uitzicht over het groen naar Portimao en de oceaan gaven ons het gevoel onderdeel te zijn van het leven in de stad en de dorpen. Wij zijn naar meerdere stranden geweest, allemaal op ongeveer 30-40 minuten afstand van het huis. De verschillen tussen de stranden zijn groot qua voorzieningen en toegankelijkheid; wij genoten van die verschillen.

Het zwembad wordt niet verwarmd. In de eerste dagen was dat wennen en vervolgens heerlijk koel. Het bankje boven in de tuin is een plek om te genieten. Te genieten van de tuin, het uitzicht, de geluiden, elkaar of een goed boek.

The Stonehouse is ideally situated to visit the sandy beaches of the south coast or the more rugged secluded coastline of the west coast, both being within a 30 minute drive. The market town of Monchique is just a 10 minute drive, which has stunning views from both the peaks of Foia (the highest peak in the Algarve).& Picota. Caldas de Monchique (spa resort) Silves (castle) Portimao (19km), Lagos (zoo), Cape St Vincent - the most westerly point of Europe, Albufeira (zoo marine - where you can swim with the dolphins, during the summer season) & Pera - site of the international sand sculptures all within easy reach. A perfect location to visit most of the Algarve region.
