Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday apartment in Zermatt - Chez Nous

Self-catering with a cosy, home-stay feeling and on-site concierge service

The Chez Nous apartments are in a building called Haus Maoli that is just a 5 minute walk from the centre of Zermatt and all the apartments have stunning views straight out on to the majestic Matterhorn.

The Mischabel is a split level apartment on the second floor that can sleep 6-8 people.

Le Petit is on the first floor and can sleep 4 people.

The only practical point to bear in mind is that direct access to our building from street level is down 3 flights of stairs. However once your luggage is installed most guests then use the shortcut to the village via a path across the field in front of the house.

NEWSFLASH - The 14th July 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of The Matterhorn led by Edward Whymper in 1865. Throughout July and August 2015 there will be special events to mark this momentous achievement including an open air theatre production at Riffelberg re-creating the climb. 2015 will be a truly memorable summer to be in Zermatt!

WARNING: we feel duty bound to warn any potential traveller, using sites like these, about the widespread proliferation of scammers setting up bogus listings and sites. If you are AT ALL uncertain about whether what you are booking is valid PLEASE telephone us because a conversation about what is on offer is much less easily 'faked' than an email offer/confirmation and we will always take the time to explain the Chez Nous service to you in detail.

About Lizzie Orange

We (Lizzie Orange and Angus Potter) have been living and working in Zermatt for the last 8 years (and Angus has been skiing here since he was 9 years old). We met here and, having left our 'London lives' behind, decided that Chez Nous was a great way to combine our skills. As well as running Chez Nous, Angus teaches skiing at one of the local ski schools (Stoked) and Lizzie is a private chef, organises events and, in the event that Chez Nous is not right for you, she can also tailor-make a holiday in Zermatt for you.

Lizzie Orange purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Lizzie Orange chose Zermatt

Initially we ran a small b&b from our apartment on the 3rd floor and then the opportunity arose to take on 2 more flats in the same building (the Swiss laws re. foreigners buying property allowed us to buy one and lease the other) which means we can now offer our guests the privacy of a self-catered holiday combined with the feel and warmth of staying in someone else's home. We completely re-furnished the flats to create a more cosy atmosphere that aims to make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.

When we set up Chez Nous I don’t think either of us imagined the pleasure we would get from meeting and getting to know the guests who have stayed with us. We spent a lot of time talking about how we wanted the flats to look (and, as anyone who has done this will know, arguing about what should go where!) but didn’t foresee how nice it would be to see families and friends enjoying the space we have created.

As we head in to our second winter season we are delighted to be welcoming back a lot of the guests who stayed in Le Petit and the Mischabel last year and we are doing our best to make sure we add a few new touches to each apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

We hope that us being 'on site' (without being in your way) will help you get the most out of your holiday. Angus knows the ski area like the back of his hand and Lizzie's forte is food - so between us we think we have the most important things covered. We will be on hand to make recommendations, reservations, answer any questions or simply have a glass of wine with you in the evening if you want to come upstairs and say hello.

Great apartment and great value.

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in two apartments in this building and could not have been more pleased with our stay. Lissie did a stellar job of advising and arranging taxies for our group of nine. The units are modern, comfortable and clean. The building is in a central location and we had views of the Matterhorn form our balcony. Lizzie arranged for delivery of food as needed and on the day of departure her husband, Angus, helped get our bags to the taxies. Lissie and Angus get an A+ for making this a perfect ski holiday.

I highly recommend this apartment and would definitely return there again - indeed, all of our group shared this opinion as we left for home.

Owner's Response: Dear Michael and Betty (I think this is you!). Thank you so much for taking the time to do a review of you stay - I am sure it helps other guests get a better feel for what to expect "Chez Nous" instead of just relying on what we say. And it was such a pleasure for me and Angus to host you all and see you enjoying these mountains as well as the 2 apartments - and I'm also glad that the weather held out for you (it is snowing hard today). We have tried hard to create an atmosphere that our guests feel comfortable in so feedback like your really is much appreciated by us both. With very best wishes to you both and I do hope that we will be able to welcome you back - don't forget how beautiful the Alps are in the summer as well! Lizzie and Angus

Fabulous Mischabel apartment in Zermatt

  • 5 of 5

Our recent stay in Zermatt was more than we could have hoped for. The apartment is even lovelier in person and is absolutely pristine. On arrival, our host Lizzie provided us with a stocked refrigerater, beautiful cut flowers and a wonderful lemon cake which we devoured over the next couple of days. The location is grand - a short walk into the main part of town. We checked our equipment by the lift, thus eliminating the need for the skibus though it is readily available. Lizzie and Angus are perfect hosts. All of our questions were answered promptly and pleasantly and their restaurant recommendations were great. Of all the vacation rentals we've found on line, this is by far the nicest. Thank you Lizzie and Angus!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Anne Lee (I think this is you not Michael!). As I hope you know, it was an absolute pleasure to host your party and see you enjoying both apartments and witnessing your appreciation of what we have tried to create here was the icing on the cake (talking of cake, I'm also glad that the lemon cake lived up to its billing!). It is snowing hard here again now so I'm grateful that the weather held up for your week and that you got to enjoy "our mountains" in all their glory. Very best wishes to you all and I hope that we will be able to welcome you back "Chez Nous" at some stage soon, Lizzie and Angus x

Great Freindly Staff to help and the apt ws great

  • 5 of 5

The hired the apartments with a group of friend who we have not been away with before. When we arrived Lizzie was there to help us unpack and carry all the kit down. The apartment great. Modern, Clean and with and the modem fixtures and fitting

You can rent it self-catered but Lizzie cooked on the 1st night (at Request) and the food was world class. Also it meant we could relax on the 1st night and talk to Angus and Lizzie about snow conditions and the best place to ski using their local experience. The 1st thing you notice is how modern and the high level of detailing on furniture and fittings within the apartments.

The Facilities in the 3 big on suite rooms and the living areas was great. The right level of technology as everyone could watch latest movies at the same watch local TV & UK based TV. After watching the news we all started to play games on the large table with a View out to the village and the mountain

Breakfast Food was there on arrival and Angus and Lizzie can down the spend the time with us to make us feel comfortable for the 1st day onwards The apartment was close to the centre of the village however far away to not have the louse and easy walking

We have been to Zermatt alot over the last years and this was one of the most pleasant and enjoyable stays we had and we felt the warmth of Lizzie hospitality while able to do your own thing. A good balance between the Family and the host

Owner's Response: Dear Andrew, Sabine and friends - thank you for taking the time to do a review for us and we are so pleased to know that our 2 apartments worked so well as a base for your trip to Zermatt. It is particularly nice seeing groups like yours appreciating what we have done to try and make both flats places that people can relax in at the end of a good ski day. I hope we will be able to welcome you back for more skiing or hiking in the summer? Best in the meantime, Lizzie and Angus

Perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

Having discovered Zermatt 30 years ago we have been coming here ever since because it is such a special place and we have been lucky always to have had a positive rewarding experience staying at a small number of very comfortable and welcoming places. Now to cap it all we have found a seriously special place to match the resort , run by two equally very special people, Lizzie and Angus, who provide the finest personal , professional service and superb accommodation at an extremely good price. The apartment is immaculate and beautifully furnished with terrific space and facilities , extremely comfortable beds and similar plentiful sofas/tables/chairs along with quality well-fitted kitchen and bathrooms and high-end electronic equipment for any quiet nights in or white-out afternoons. The building is conveniently located near to all the essential action hot spots and sights but nicely set apart off the linking roads , sufficiently removed to preserve essential evening and night-time peace and quiet after a hard days skiing or a typical long Zermatt mountain restaurant lunch. We absolutely loved it and for us there is little point in looking for anywhere else to stay in the future. We would recommend Lizzie and Angus's apartments to anyone who quite simply wants the very best of everything in Zermatt at a very reasonable price ( provided there is enough space for us as well in the future).

Owner's Response: What a lovely review Laura - thank you so much. We are always a little nervous when we have guests who know Zermatt so well because we know that there is a lot of accommodation to chose from! So to know that you all felt so at home with us, and appreciated the lengths we have gone to to make sure that "Chez Nous" is somewhere where friends and families can feel properly comfortable and relaxed, means a lot to us and we both hope that for as long as you continue to come to Zermatt you will treat Le Petit and The Mischabel as your Zermatt homes. Best wishes to you both until we see you again, Lizzie and Angus

Fabulous Experience Stunning Matterhorn Views

  • 5 of 5

Spending New Year in Zermatt is always special but this year Lizzie & Angus made sure our stay was extra special. The Apartment was beautifully presented with great care taken to every detail. Centrally located the apartment was very quiet – the beds were very comfortable ensuring a great nights sleep. Nothing better than breakfast with friends round the dining table & enjoying stunning views of the Matterhorn. A memorable stay. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you Barrie. It was lovely to see you all enjoying the apartment as a base-camp for the New Year week in the way we hoped it would be used - and to know that you managed to fit so much in during your week in Zermatt. We are so pleased it lived up to expectations. Hope we will be able to welcome you back soon and in the meantime very best wishes to you all for 2015. Lizzie and Angus

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Three couples stayed here for three nights in late September. It was by far the nicest place we stayed in all of Switzerland. Lizzie and Angus had been called away, but they made sure we were met at the train, taken to the apartment and welcomed by their friend Stuart. He was helpful in showing us around the apartment and explaining where to go in town for certain things. Lizzie had also made dinner reservations for us the first night. Both were welcome and wonderful gestures. The apartment is beautiful, comfy with homey touches. We ended up eating in one night and the two cooks in our group were very impressed with all the kitchen provided. We even had a special request revolving around watching the Ryder Cup on pay per view and Lizzie was happy to accommodate. The whole experience was so appreciated and made our time in Zermatt special. We will definitely return!!!!!

Owner's Response: Dear Marylynn What a nice email to pop up while we are in the midst of ploughing through our accounts! It means so much to get a review like that and know that you all had a happy time in Zermatt and "Chez Nous". Angus and I were only sorry that we did not meet you this time around but we will pass on your comments to Stuart whom we are seeing this evening. I do hope that we will be able to welcome you back - we will be making small tweaks to the apartments before next season to keep them looking fresh as well as familiar so fingers crossed that you will be one of the guests that we can look forward to seeing again. Very best wishes to you in the meantime for the rest of 2014, Lizzie and Angus

Car: not necessary

NEWSFLASH - The 14th July 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of The Matterhorn led by Edward Whymper in 1865. Throughout July and August 2015 there will be special events to mark this momentous achievement including an open air theatre production at Riffelberg re-creating the climb. 2015 will be a truly memorable summer to be in Zermatt!

Zermatt deserves its reputation as one of the world's best mountain resorts - there is a magical quality to it all year round.

The Klein Matterhorn cable car is the highest cable car in Europe (3,883m at the summit) and on a clear day gives you simply breathtaking views out towards Mont Blanc and its surrounding peaks. Alternatively start your day on the Gornergrat railway which originally opened in 1898 and is the second highest railway in Europe (after the Jungfrau) - a great feat of Swiss engineering. From the top of Gornergrat you get a sweeping panorama of 29 'four thousanders' (mountains over 4,000m) including the Monte Rosa which is the highest mountain in Switzerland.

In the winter your lift pass covers the Zermatt and Cervinia and includes some 360km of marked runs but if that isn't enough you can also ice skate, sledge, hike, snow shoe, try curling or simply swim and relax in one of the village hotel's wonderful wellness areas.

In the summer there is glorious hiking, climbing, a fun park for the children, cycling, tennis, squash, paragliding and plenty of places to have a picnic by a lake.

At any time of year Zermatt has something to offer and its mountain restaurants are second to none in the Alps so the gourmet will not be disappointed either.
