Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Maida Vale - Sevington Street
2 bedroom, 2 bathroom Victorian home with plenty of style
The last word
Sevington Street, seen from afar, is one of those ageless Victorian terraces, untouched since the era of bustles and bodices, mutton-chop whiskers and frock coats. But you’d be a little mistaken. Bombed during the Blitz, only recently was this home restored to its former glory – and then some. For this is a splendidly modern abode, all surreal artwork and smart cartoons, neutral shades and slouchy furniture. You’ve a sweetly fetching garden, in which your predecessors may have sat with plum-cake and cups of tea, and a location that’s handy whatever the era. Indeed, Notting Hill is nearby, and Little Venice welcomingly close at hand…
This home owes its healthy glow to your hosts, who lovingly restored it over nine months. A young couple, she is a production assistant, he a writer and art director.
This home sits on a sleepy street of terraced houses, and yet there’s nary a sepia tint on stepping inside. Start in the sitting room, brightly modern with its winking downlights, cloud-white walls and contemporary graphic artwork. Here you can settle into the sofa, the better to see the wall-mounted TV, or go and investigate the DVD collection. Once lunch has been whipped up in the pastel blue kitchen, four can dine at the sweet wooden table.
The garden speaks of barbecues and pitchers of Pimm’s shared among friends, or you can throw yourself down on the lawn. There are two bedrooms, a calm, uncluttered double and an elegant master adorned with modern art and butterflies. There is also a smart ensuite, and another invitingly modern bathroom to boot.
The Victorians loved their poetry, and there’s something lyrical about Little Venice. Stroll beside the sunlit water and slumbering narrow-boats, see some comedy at the Canal Café Theatre or just lie back in pretty Little Venice Gardens. There are countless independent eateries and delis to discover, as well as Notting Hill, which is a short of bus ride away. As for the West End, the tube from Warwick Avenue to Oxford Circus takes just over ten minutes.
