Le vieux Château - Through the gates into the Grand Courtyard and take your first glimpse of this 15C small
private family chateau...the word ‘Fabuleux' rolls off your tongue. Eager to discover what is behind the yellow limestone walls - swing open the large Oak door and take a look at the creation & hard work owners & team have accomplished over the past 5 years' - A complete restaurant project superbly executed, transforming it from ruin to remarkable. The owners, Karin & Jaap, in fact are no strangers to the village - they upgraded from number 13 ‘Rue Chateau' to ‘Le Chateau' itself!
Located, in the grand-cru wine village of Puligny-Montrachet, a stones' throw from Beaune, enjoy a stay in this elegant property complimented by the local commerce on your doorstep - wine bars, numerous restaurants, local wine producers etc.
Living...Leading off from the spacious entrance hall you will find a divine dining room decorated in typical French neutral tones, a spacious living room with open fireplace, furnished with modern designer furniture and impressive oversized gilted light fitting. Adjacent there is a TV den, offering an area of relaxation with all mod cons including Apple TV.
Cooking...A dream for a real ‘cuisinier' - Fully equipped with everything you would require & awash with integrated appliances: warmers, steamer, fryer etc. Feeling Inspired...'When in Bourgogne' do as the ‘Bourguignons' - purchase the fabulous fresh produce from the market, cook at home & enjoy with family & friends. The secondary open plan dining area of the kitchen, provides an area for more relaxed entertaining.
Sleeping...Up the Stone spiral staircase (NB: The integral staircase is communal with the adjoining apartment) On Level 1 you will find five en-suite double bedrooms. Your surroundings are neutral colours, traditional Oak ceilings & floors, Kingsize designer beds and touch of the traditional French furniture - A real mix of the Old & New. Level
2, In the rafters of this beautiful building you will find the sixth en-suite double bedroom and additional impressive ‘Space' which can be used for conferences or extra accommodation for children.
Outside...The Grand Courtyard to the front of the property offers an area of calm and privacy adjacent to the vines; of one of the most famous white wines of the world. There is outdoor table & chairs & BBQ for guest use.
This house is super! What you see on the pictures is really what you get. A great kitchen with all kinds of cooking gadgets and a lot of space to cook. You can eat there or in the dining room. There is a nice library/relax room and a smaller TV/play room (for kids). The 6 double bed rooms are like luxury hotel rooms (minor drawback is that some share toilet). There is even a large open room with 6 'children' beds (see pictures on the site). So you can sleep with upto 18 people! If you plan to be here with more than 12 people - please note this 'children' room is used as passage by the people sleeping in one of the doublerooms so little privacy for those in the children room. The house has a great atmosphere. We also enjoyed the hot tub outside!
Drawback of this rental relates to the property management.
The rental costs on the website was not the price charged - which was 11% higher. The explanation by the property management was that they do not work on a pro-rata basis (internet) for larger properties, as changeover & linen costs are high and also heating costs to be considered. They should indicate this on the website (under rates) to avoid surprises.
Also you need to take into account an additional 2,75% of costs. This is what the property management charges in case of payment by credit card. Though they ONLY accept payment by credit card enforcing this additional 2,75% (not mentioned on the site).
Finally the cleaning should be better: we found trash under a bed; breadcrumbs in oven & microwave, used chopping board on the kitchen table (tomato rests still on it, brrrr) and dirty toilet lid. So we had to do some cleaning before we felt comfortable.
To conclude - for the house we would come back! Though I wished we could hire this house via another route as I prefer not to hire again from this Property management team. It would have made a difference for me as organizer and payer of the weekend – friends clearly did not notice and enjoyed the lovely house!
