This charming and beautifully renovated property is located in the Lantilly, a small village perched on an escarpment providing exceptional views across the Brenne valley, and just a 5 minute drive from the medieval market town of Semur en Auxois with its shops, restaurants and patisseries.
It provides a relaxing and comfortable home-from-home, with the addition of a large private garden and a pool with exceptional views. This is a unique property which consists of two separate houses, either side of a private courtyard. You have the choice of renting both properties or just one. If you do rent only one house, the other will not be let while you are there. This will ensure that you have exclusive use of the garden and pool throughout your stay. If you wish to rent the second house, just let us know and we can provide a competitive price.
It is perfect for either family or friends or family. Both houses are comfortable, fully equipped, child-friendly homes with a veranda plus a large wooden terrace from which to relax and enjoy al-fresco wining and dining with beautiful views. La Petite Paillotte has the added attraction of a well-equipped children’s play room. The large private garden is entirely enclosed as is the family sized swimming pool.
The garden is truly a delight. Lovingly created by the owners, the peace and tranquility are evident. It is the ideal retreat where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, assured that you also have everything to make your holiday that bit easier. There is very little passing traffic in the village but even so, the courtyard and gardens are private and enclosed, allowing children and dogs to play safely. That said, this is a perfect base from which to explore Burgundy or other nearby areas as transport links are so good. In addition, free Wi-Fi internet and excellent mobile phone reception enable you to stay in touch with the outside world.
The larger of the two houses, with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, La Paillotte is a lovely, elegant house which retains many of its original features whilst offering all modern facilities. This combination works to create a very comfortable home with a warm and welcoming ambiance, and is an excellent year-round getaway
On entering the house on the ground floor, you find yourself immediately in the large open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room. The natural stone floors and tall windows create an airy and cool space that is both practical and homely. The sitting area boasts an open fire and lots of comfy sofas.
The well equipped kitchen has all mod cons including hob, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. A washing machine & tumble dryer are also available in a separate laundry room, accessed from the courtyard. The dining room is spacious with a long traditional table seating 8, and from here you can step out onto the large elevated terrace from which you can enjoy the spectacular views.
There are 4 bedrooms in La Paillotte, 2 doubles and 2 singles. On the ground floor there is a large double bedroom with ensuite shower room and WC. Upstairs, there is a second large double bedroom looking out over the courtyard, with exposed beams and wooden floors. The two single bedrooms are upstairs and are accessed through their own door off the hallway. The first is cosy with exposed beams, whilst the second (which leads off the first) enjoys stunning views over the garden & valley beyond.
A cot is also available.
The second larger bathroom is upstairs and provides WC, modern shower, heated radiator and child seat. It also enjoys the view!
La Petite Paillotte
Situated across the courtyard, this detached 3 bedroomed ,1 bathroomed house is independent and fully equipped in its own right and can sleep 6 adults +2 (sofa bed) . However it shares the private courtyard, swimming pool and laundry room with its 'sister'.
La Petite Paillotte itself is a real gem, with a covered terrace leading onto the garden which provides a superb view over the valley and is a great place for relaxing on a sun lounger or enjoying ‘al fresco’ dining. This house has also been renovated to a high standard, featuring thick stones walls which keep the house cool in summer and a wood burning stove with central heating for the chillier seasons.
From the courtyard, you enter into the large open-plan living area with a Burgundian stone floor and wood burning stove. The fully equipped modern kitchen provides everything that you might need, including a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and oven with hob. The kitchen extends into the dining area, with seating for 6, and double French doors opening onto the covered veranda and the garden. Both the kitchen and dining area share the exceptional view over the garden and valley beyond. The living area is spacious and boasts a lovely wood burning stove, surrounded by a sofa and comfy chairs.
Upstairs there are 3 bedrooms, 2 doubles and a twin. The first double is a spacious sunny room overlooking the private courtyard with a large double bed and a cot. Bedroom 2 is a light and airy double bedroom also overlooking the private courtyard. The twin bedroom has 2 single beds on either side of the room, and enjoys a lovely view over the garden.
The large family bathroom is upstairs and is finished in a contemporary style, with a WC, bath and separate shower.
The play room is real feature of La Petite Paillotte. An ideal place for all the kids to play, this is a very large, sunny room running the full width of the house and offering a variety of games, and it also provides an extra sofa bed (for 2 adults). It is perfect if the weather is bad or you need a peaceful corner to escape to with a good book!

Burgundy is also well noted for the warmth of its welcome and the extent of its hospitality. The oldest horse race in France is “La Bague” which takes place in June on the streets of nearby Semur en Auxois, and this medieval town holds antiques markets and a small fresh produce market on Sunday mornings. Excellent restaurants abound!
