Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Chiswick & Hounslow - Strand On The Green

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom riverside house with a garden and balcony in Chiswick

Meandering on

Like the city it winds through, the Thames never stops moving. But where London is a restless blur of motion, the river keeps its own gentle pace. And, perched on its sleepy banks a few miles upstream, you’ll find a home that’s been around almost as long. Two hundred and fifty years old, this graceful Georgian home is a perfect riverside retreat. Outside, the tide turns beneath your window, while the décor is both witty and traditional. Whether you’re nuzzled on the balcony or strolling about the sweet-scented garden, this is a home that’s as fresh as a woodland spring – and just outside the city.

The rover

Born in Hampstead, your host loves London for its theatres, cinemas and galleries. With sons in Los Angeles and Chile, she’s a big traveller, too. But perhaps her biggest pride and joy is Truffle, her pet dog…

White water

Titled in terracotta, the hallway spills both left and right as you enter. Find the sitting room and slip onto one of the wonderfully slouchy sofas, watching as daylight tumbles through grand Georgian windows. You’ve a dining table and chairs in polished wood, while artworkinlines the wall in gilt frames. The garden is a glorious green expanse, just perfect for those moonlit suppers or idle afternoons. A gracious, country vibe enfolds the large kitchen, while the cloakroom is a cheery ode to all things canine.

Skip down to the red and white-toned study, and you’ve a desk that doubles, brilliantly, as a single bed. The bright twin bedroom nestles right up against the river, while the bathroom is whitely pristine. Upstairs, trinkets and treasures perch on the master bedroom’s period furniture. It’s a purple and gold affair in the delightfully decadent ensuite, while the balcony gives you the grandstand view of that rather famous river.

Along the towpath

Deservedly dotted with blue plaques, Strand-on-the-Green is a conservation area of no small beauty. Your riverside ramble should include a visit to one of its three historic pubs, before looking in on the celebrated Chiswick House. Stroll across Kew Bridge and you’ll spot the honeyed mask of the botanical gardens, which draws visitors from far afield. For dinner, you’ve the choice of numerous restaurants and eateries in Chiswick itself, or you can head into town. The tube from Gunnersbury to Oxford Circus takes a little over half an hour

What makes this house unique

Booking a stay is as easy as booking a hotel room, with online payment and confirmation. You get the same attention to detail and personal service too.

Every home is properly cleaned before and after you stay, beds made (we can even do hospital corners) and bathrooms kitted out with luxury toiletries. There’s a maid service if you want it, as well as other hotel-style amenities.

Once we’ve helped you settle in, we’re just a call away, 24/7. If it’s something we can’t solve over the phone, we’ll pop over to lend a hand.

And because nobody wants to be a tourist, our homes come with personal and unique recommendations from the people who live in them – places to eat, things to do and adventures to go on.
