Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Hackney - Old Nichol Street

3 bedroom, 3 bathroom warehouse conversion in the heart of vibrant Shoreditch

Rags to Riches

Any good tale of triumph over adversity contains a plucky protagonist, and the biography of Shoreditch is all the more compelling for its earthy substance. Under the self-possessed charisma, a lovable ugly duckling still lurks. There’s grittiness here- between the Victorian bricks, in the atmospheric, ramshackle bars, and in the vibrant diversity of residents. It’s this urban edge that has lured in creatives, eccentrics and artists- Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst not least among them. Here, amidst anachronistic streets, and period buildings, an old warehouse has been through an impressive conversion to a contemporary three bed, two bath family home. Why not nest in a while and grow some fine new plumes…

The Alchemists

If alchemy is the process of transforming base materials into something of beauty and value, then your artist hosts possess this most coveted of gifts. Armed with an extravagance of creative flair, an enthusiasm for architecture, and an impeccable design sense, they have converted a run-down warehouse into both a walk-in, live-in walk of art, and home for themselves and their daughter.

The Art of Transformation

Once inside, you’ll experience a visceral sense of form, space and beauty. Vast windows illuminate expansive rooms, and an abundance of light energises white washed walls, planes of wooden floors, designer furniture, and sublime paintings. On the first floor, the serene, warm wood and steel kitchen with its central island is a great place to experiment with some molecular gastronomy. Serve it next door at the stretched, bench style wooden table in a palatial dining area. Upstairs, an enormous cowhide, Morandi-esque still life paintings, and a distinctive leather sofa placate the industrial style beams in the sitting room. So nestle in for some restful, hibernatory evenings, or delight in all manner of moonlit shape-shifting in the secluded privacy of an enchanting terrace. An elegant master bedroom with its comfy two-meter square bed is an ample cocoon, and a wet room with a power shower will reveal a revitalised, brand new you.

Regeneration

Shoreditch has been through such a renaissance in recent decades that it is literally buzzing with life and community. There are great boutiques, up scale bars and clubs, and restaurants that cater for ragged or rich purses. Hip Brick Lane and the excellent Spitalfields Market are nearby, or for the ever changing moods of the city, central London is only 15 minutes away by tube.

Notes:
A welcome pack will be provided on arrival and an iPhone will be available for you during the duration of your stay. Home truths: You will have to make your ice the old fashioned way, as the ice machine on the fridge no longer works. Children of all ages are welcome at Old Nichol Street. But parents of young children should be aware that the home is not appropriately equipt for toddlers as there are multiple staircases and no guards. This home has a minimum night stay of 5 nights.
