Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in Holborn - Laystall Street

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom hideaway in Holborn that is bursting with surprises

By the book

Laystall Street nestles between the equally affluent and historic areas of Clerkenwell and Holborn. So, leave your travel card at home, because some of London’s most coveted cultural curiosities are within walking distance, such as the British Museum, The Barbican, and the voyeur’s favourite, the Hunterian Collection. Once you’re wander-weary, return to your one bedroom, one bathroom abode, pull up a pew in the sitting room and feel the hand-woven Scottish wool of the Harris tweed cushions between as you recline before the flat screen television.

Pen warrior

Your host is a professional development coach with a penchant for penning his ponderings, and he is currently writing his first novel. His literary leanings are hinted at in the calm orderliness of his Holborn home, and his city centre surrounds provide ample opportunities for playing the flaneur and gaining inspiration.

Believe the type

Step inside this four storey sanctuary and be at once arrested by the minimal colour scheme and graphite coloured carpet, which lend the space a modern, sophisticated atmosphere. Rustle something up in the small but perfectly formed kitchen and enjoy it in the dining room, where light blue brocade wallpaper breaks up the clean lines, and the conceptual contemporary art hangs above the three-seater dining table. Swan downstairs to the high end bathroom and take a dip in the large bath, which is tucked away beneath one of the Victorian building’s original archways, and be lulled into a zen-like state by the pale green colour scheme. A glass basin, heated towel rack and sleek, walk-in shower, add to the upscale ambience.

Once refreshed, ascend to the first floor sitting room. Here, take a book from the shelf and recline on the baroque sofa, in the light of the original sash windows, or muster a literary masterpiece from the comfort of the swivel chair. Turn the page and trot upstairs to the impressive bedroom, where an irresistibly rustic brick wall and slanted roof exude character. From the white linen of the double bed you can even peep down to the sweet street below.

Ink big

If artisanal coffee and freshly infused tea is your bag, then the café culture which surrounds your Holborn home will surely pique your palate. The affluent boutique-fringed streets of Clerkenwell are on your doorstep, and the alt-chic of trendy Shoreditch is a short bus ride away. Oxford Street’s bustle, meanwhile, is just a ten minute stroll down the road.

Notes:
A welcome pack will be provided on arrival and an iPhone will be available for you during the duration of your stay. Home truths: A true Alice in Wonderland home, with each room on its own floor. It is spread over four levels, so there are a number of stairs to negotiate in this home. If you stay with small children there are a lot of unprotected stairs and due care and attention will be required. The bathroom and dressing room can be found in the basement of the home and the bedroom is on the second floor. This is a well loved home with signs of wear and tear.
