Overview

Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Holborn - Montague Place

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom stunning, museum of a home, right next to Soho

Curiouser and curiouser

To enter Montague Place is to step into another world, a world of mystic tapestries, of burnished silks and benevolent Buddhas. Where else can you recline upon hand-turned wood, cook in saucepans of hammered copper, and sleep in a four-poster bed? You're right next to the British Museum, where you've some of mankind's greatest treasures - indeed, there's so much to see that you could be there for weeks. But take time to walk to nearby Covent Garden, where the statues spring into life, venture into Soho, and along Oxford Street. You're surrounded by art, culture, beauty and decadence - both inside your new home and out.

Great minds

Your hostess lives in Norway, and she's a frequent visitor to London. Montague Place first belonged to her father, whose studies took place at the British Museum. A collector of furniture and art, his is a truly extraordinary home.

Display case

There’s something of the renaissance apartment to the sitting room’s sage green walls and dark, dark antique furniture. Look up for an astonishing array of art, look down for an equal abundance of hand-woven rugs. The eat-in kitchen’s just as atmospheric, with its vintage glassware and blue and white china, and while the copper saucepans have stood the test of time, the range cooker is almost brand new. With its extravagantly luxurious four-poster bed and one wall painted in gold, a night in the master bedroom will surely be one of the more memorable of your lifetime. And despite all that richness, the atmosphere is never for a moment oppressive – how could it be, when, with the twist of a handle, you’re out in the fresh air, on your own private terrace?

The guide

For so central a part of town, Holborn is surprisingly tranquil, a network of garden squares criss-crossed with buzzy main roads. You're right next to the British Museum, to Goodge Street’s cafes and restaurants and to the shops of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. For nightlife, there is, of course, Soho, where the music plays loud and late, or the razzmatazz of Covent Garden. Best of all, you're so central that you can miss the last tube home without batting an eyelid.
