Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Montbron - Chez Berthonet
Rural 18th C. character cottage with 2 bedrooms
Chez Berthonet takes its name from a small farming hamlet set above the charming village of Varaignes on the Charente/Dordogne border. Quiet and peaceful, the house stands on its own in the hamlet with delightful views across the fields from the south facing terrace and garden.
This 18th century property will comfortably accommodate two, with the option of sleeping four people. There is one main bedroom of character, fully carpeted, with antique furniture, a king-size bed and a pleasant view from the double doors that lead to the side of the property. The main bedroom is accessed via an additional sleeping area / dressing room, with two single beds. A further double sofa bed is available, if required, in the sitting room.
The main door of the house opens into a spacious kitchen with a large open fireplace and dining table, and there is a generous sitting room, with French windows giving access to the terrace and gardens. The house is equipped with WIFI, DVD player (no satellite or terrestrial TV), telephone, shower room / WC, washing machine, kitchen with gas hob/cooker, fridge/freezer. Why Mrs Caroline Beauvois chose Montbron
The property reflects a bygone era of quiet, rural life. Its the perfect place to escape the fast pace of modern life. The area abounds with rural footpaths and walking tracks amongst pretty woodland. The house is well situated for access to the near by towns of Montbron, Brantome and Nontron should you wish to go shopping or want to eat out. The city of Angouleme has may excellent restaurants, boutiques and a large covered daily market. It also hosts the well know classic car race 'The Circuit De Rampart' every September. It is well worth a visit whatever time of year you are there and is only a 40 minute drive from the house. Whilst the property does not have a swimming pool there is an excellent man made swimming Lac with sandy beach that is only a 15 minute drive from the house. There is also a beautiful open air public pool in Montbron which is a 10 minute drive.
What makes this cottage unique
I chose this property for its peaceful location, the countryside very much reminds me of my childhood growing up in the English countryside of the 1950's.
