This area of France is truly ideal for holidays. Situated between the Massif des Maures mountains to the North and the beautiful beaches of the Cote d'Azur to the South it offers everything one could imagine. Glitzy beaches, chic shops, VIP's in their oversized yachts and amazing restaurants in the famous (once sleepy) village of St Tropez or the much quieter coves and beaches with their laid back atmosphere in the villages of Canadel or Le Lavandou. The beautiful Iles d'Or with their crystal clear waters and unspoilt beaches are only a short ferry ride away. This is the perfect place to rent bicycles, pack a picnic and visit the magical botanical gardens.
Visit the nearby hilltop villages of Grimaud and La Garde Freinet, picturesque with their tiny winding streets, family-run restaurants and an air of tranquility.
For the wine lovers of course, this area is perfect. Visit the local caves and Chateaus and sample the delicious harvests. For the more active ones, there are many Golf courses, a thrilling go-kart track for the grown up children, tennis courts, hiking and biking tracks, as well as windsurfing and boat rentals at the local beaches.
If you like outdoor shopping then the wonderfully colourful French markets are a must. The most charming is held on Tuesday and Saturday mornings in Saint Tropez. And don't miss the incredible Thief's market in Grimaud, where every Sunday morning a vineyard turns into a bargain hunter heaven. Old linen, a vintage kelly bag or the perfect kitchen table, you can find everything there. Ramatuelle is another favourite place, with its stunning beaches and a beautiful crowd. Club 55, THE restaurant of choice (made famous by Brigitte Bardot in 1955) is well worth a long and lazy lunch. The food is simple and delicious and yes, the wait list for a table notorious.
About 35 min North from Garde Freinet is the perfectly preserved Cistercian monastery of Le Thoronet which was founded in 1120.
