This property called to us....we have always loved the area, it is vibrant and creative with an abundance of great restaurants, bars, florists, chocolate shops .....the flat has such a great location, beautiful proportions and features and of course a fabulous garden.
We fell in love with this flat .....it is so special because it has its own sunny garden and direct access to a beautiful forestlike communal garden...it is such a luxury to be in the heart of town yet look out of the kitchen window and believe you are in the countryside!
The garden was just as magical as we had imagined--our children delighted in exploring it, like their own secret garden. The apartment itself was perfect for our needs (family of 4), and we appreciated the aesthetics of the decor. We also really appreciated the gourmet groceries, which the owner provided on our arrival at a nominal cost, which made it so easy for us to recover from our journey. The location was fantastic--especially since our children love Paddington bear stories, so it was wonderful to stay in his neighborhood! Lots of great restaurants, bakeries, and stores nearby on Portebello and neighboring roads, including a wine store and prepared food store ("The Grocer on Elgin") where it was easy to pick up an excellent dinner to eat at home. The walk to the Notting Hill Gate tube station was 5-10 minutes (no hills), or you could hop on a double decker bus (just steps from the apartment) and get there in a couple minutes.
We would definitely stay at Arundel Gardens again.
This was the absolute perfect place for what we were looking for. Right in the heart of it all (parks, restaurants, tube, shops, etc), yet completely appropriate for us to bring our not quite 2yo. The flat boasts a very efficient layout that's great and quite spacious, charming decor that's inviting yet stylish, fully stocked kitchen; we could tell someone was a foodie there, :) and a delightful garden to stroll through when not promenading through Knotting Hill or Kensington. You know what the icing on the cake was? After traveling for a couple weeks, we were able to do laundry. This was HUGE! Especially with a toddler! Everything was well cared for and clean and we felt right at home on arrival.
The owner was very accommodating as it was a rather last minute reservation from abroad while already en route. She was flexible and understanding of the limitations in communication and fund transfers when trying to make arrangements from outside your home country to yet, another country. The address was a bit confusing when we gave it to our cab driver, however, he used to work in the postal service and was quite familiar with the street and knew where to go. Lucky us! Someone was there to kindly greet us and offers were extended should we have any sort of special requests.
We had great access to the tube and trips to the hot spots were easy. Our son particularly enjoyed the Diana Memorial Playground. (Though he DID contract a delightful European strand of Chicken Pox from there that revealed itself right after getting home. Considering how many children were having the time of their lives there, I'm surprised he didn't bring home more! Glad it happened at the end of our trip.)
Overall, we had a wonderful time in London (always do) and this flat made it ideal. The price was quite reasonable and it featured far more than any hotel we were looking at. Most were totally booked anyway. (Another reason I love VRBO.) Not only would I recommend this flat to friends and family (already have to a few friends), but I will look to stay here again the next time that I'm in London.
