: San Domenico
Puglia is renowned for its excellent food and wine.
The house is in the small village of Pascarosa, roughly equidistant between Ostuni, Cisternino, Martina Franca and Ceglie Messapica, which all vary in age between about one and three thousand years. Alberobello, (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Locorotondo and Grottaglie are slightly further, while Lecce and Matera, at about an hour's drive, make for a good day trip. With Old Towns, Churches, Castles, Palazzi, Trulli, Gardens, Museums, Caves and Archaeological sites, it would be impossible to exhaust the sightseeing in the area.
Each town has weekly food markets (on different days), with fresh, local produce of the highest quality. Local specialities include Martina Franca's Burrata to Ceglie Messapica's unique Biscotti. The area also has excellent restaurants with a particularly good pizzeria a five minute walk from the house, however wonderful food can be found in every price range, from the local trattorias to the four nearby Michelin starred restaurants.
The area is predominantly covered with vineyards and olive groves and he countryside around the house is also dotted with Trulli. It all makes for a very scenic countryside.
The Valle d'Itria is ideally situated for getting to both the Adriatic and Ionic coasts. There are lovely beaches within a twenty minutes drive. The nature reserve at Torre Guacetto, is half an hours drive away where sailing and wind surfing courses can be organised.
The local area has festivals for everything from cheese, to opera, to handicrafts and ceramics, all depending on the time of year, these can add to the interesting activities.
