3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Home With Soaring Ceilings And Plentiful Skylights
Breath of fresh air
A puckish west wind blows through the well-proportioned windows and skylights of Venice Canal House, bringing with it languid days and a relaxed milieu. And you’ll feel Venice in this home’s laidback palette and playful layout. Spend mornings tucking in at the highly hued dining table beneath a cluster of Edison bulbs, or enjoying leisurely strolls along the picturesque canals – to which there’s exclusive access via a private dock. And if your pursuits are more active, Venice beach is close by, where there’s a choice between beach volleyball, cycling and rollerblading.
Shoot the breeze
Your hosts are a couple who share their home with their dog, Betty. When they're not off travelling the world for work, they enjoy taking Betty for walks around their historic neighbourhood.
Gone with the wind
Take in the sea breeze atop the rooftop’s chaise lounges, or slip on out to the verdant garden and settle beneath the shade of the pretty trees which border the private dock. And inside is just as inviting – comfortable sofas and ample armchairs are brightened by colourful throw pillows, while the sweet wooden kitchen’s mosaic tiles and glass panels gleam bright. Upstairs you'll find an office with a kitchenette, as well as a trio of generous bedrooms – the master is brightly lit and airy, with a plush reading nook, a private balcony, and a refreshing ensuite.

Why Owner / Property Manager chose Venice Beach
Long ago – after the resort crowd found a comparatively happier place on earth in Anaheim, and oil tycoons drank up fossilized riches for decades – the artists came to Venice, eschewing posher Santa Monica above, Mar Vista aside and affluent Marina Del Rey below.
Their needs were minimal, their possessions few… but their creativity quickly took root in the salty sea breeze. They created the pedestrian-only Ocean Front Walk promenade, equal parts seaside and sideshow. The main drag – Abbot Kinney (named after the city’s co-founder) – became thick with specialty curio shops like Tony’s, cafés like sandwich staple Abbot’s Habit and local watering holes like The Brig.
And then a funny thing happened. Ideas, it turns out, are quite valuable to those who need them. Soon the artists found themselves in demand and their city prosperous, beckoning artists of other trades – designers, chefs, decorators, and mixologists – to organically integrate their own ideas alongside Venice’s historic canals and coffeehouses, embracing new yet preserving old.
Today’s Venice is an eclectic mix, a patchwork playground where vestiges of its counter-culture days proudly neighbour hip new entries, such as city-wide brunch and brick-oven pizza destination Gjelina and Mediterranean-inspired tapas at Primitivo Wine Bistro. While antique shops like Firefly and The Perfect Piece remind us that what’s old can still be new again. And it remains a place for artists, vintage yet modern, serving draft beers alongside handcrafted cocktails, for barefoot hippies and mustachioed hipsters alike.
