A mile from Port Navas is Calamansack, a hamlet of cottages down a private lane beside the broad Helford River, looking over it and Frenchman’s Creek to wooded hillsides and fields, almost buildingless; an infinitely peaceful scene, excellent for birdwatchers. Lots of birds (swans, curlews, buzzards, herons and egrets), animals (foxes, badgers). Constantine, 3½ miles. We let three cottages here.

... a handsome, attached, early 17th cent., granite farmhouse (arrow 2) with mesmerising views along Frenchman’s Creek and woods. Own mooring, 200 yards. At the back, overlooking Helford River, a large sun terrace (just right for sundowners) with steps down to a huge lawned garden, good for energetic ball games.

Fine open entrance porch to hall; width-of-house living/dining room with big windows (glorious views) and French windows to terrace, sensible family-friendly furnishings, walnut table/chairs, granite fireplace (woodburner), TV/DVD/video; excellent farmhouse fitted kitchen (washing machine, microwave) with pine table/chairs, marble worktops, beams, huge granite inglenook with oil-fired Rayburn (plus electric cooker), limestone floor, pretty dresser of blue and white china, chest freezer in hall; shower-room (suite). Upstairs, four bedrooms, all elegant with lovely pieces of antique furniture and window seats – three double (all with wonderful views), and one with two singles. Pretty bathroom (suite plus hand-shower). A great place to chill out.

Port Navas: beautiful creek-side hamlet, completely unspoilt. Oyster farm. The tidal creek leads into the Helford River, and beside it a lane to Glendurgan and Trebah gardens and Helford Passage (sandy beach, good pub, boat hire) where pedestrian ferry to Helford village (nice pub). Many other beaches nearby.

Constantine (nearest shops/good food pubs), 1������������ miles;

Falmouth, 6 miles.
