About Debbie Andrews

Originally from London, Simon and I worked at a Steiner community south of Edinburgh, farming alongside and caring for adults with special needs. We relocated to Cornwall in 1996, 2 weeks prior to the birth of our third son, Charlie. We now have 5 children, all taller than us. Simon, a biochemist, traded a career in a hospital chemistry lab for a life as an organic farmer. He hasn't regretted it. And I, with a Masters degree in Natural Resource Management, I attempt to find practical application for my knowledge whenever I can. Now he's learning the clarinet and I'm singing jazz. We make a good team!

Debbie Andrews purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Debbie Andrews chose Fowey

We were both familiar with Cornwall from childhood holidays and were attracted to the county as a potential place to settle. The location of the farm, sitting above the village of Golant, and yet secluded and away from any main roads, meant that it was easily accessible and yet peaceful, set in beautiful rolling countryside. We live close to Fowey, an established holiday destination and, recognising this, we began converting the barns surrounding the farmhouse in 1998. Having lived in a Steiner community prior to buying the farm we enjoy welcoming visitors to stay and to share this idyllic spot.

Find South Torfrey Farm on Facebook, or visit our website and read our weekly blog.

What makes this cottage unique

South Torfrey Farm is located 200m down a private drive, off a minor village road, with ample parking. Close to Golant, a friendly village pub and the Cormorant Hotel (for afternoon tea with a stunning view) are a short walk away. We are 3 miles from the charming Cornish harbour town of Fowey with a wide choice restaurants, tearooms and more than its fair share of Inns and watering holes. Fowey is a favourite port of call for many yachting holiday makers. We enjoy stunning coastal scenery and there's always a footpath close by - either along the coast or the Saint's way. Plus Polkerris beach is a five minute drive away with a water sport centre, Sam's on the Beach and the Rashleigh Inn. Centrally located, South Torfrey Farm is a superb base from which to discover Cornwall. These are the benefits we enjoy. We welcome you to come and sample them for yourselves.

The Fisherman's Arms waterside pub and the Cormorant Hotel (offering an evening menu or afternoon tea with fantastic river views) are both located in Golant. Local fish shop, bakery, butchers and delicatessen are located in Fowey, 5 minutes drive from farm. Also in Fowey you'll find a number of quirky tea rooms (try Pinky Murphy's), and a good selection of restaurants and ale houses. There is a Barclays ATM in Fowey, at the bottom of Lostwithiel Street.

Asquith's and Trewithan restaurants in Lostwithiel well worth a visit (10 minutes drive).

Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrison's are all within a 30 minute drive from the farm. Tesco (Holmbush branch) will deliver to the farm if you wish to place an order online.

Polkerris (10 minute drive) is home to the Rashleigh Inn waterfront pub, and Sam's on the Beach pizza and seafood restaurant. Plus the Polkerris Beach Company for water sport activities. Walk towards Fowey along the coast path & you'll come across many secluded sandy coves, safe for swimming, great for rock pooling. Polridmouth, Coombe Haven and onwards toward Readymoney at the west end of Fowey (toilet facilities and regular ice cream van .. though the ice creams in Fowey are way superior!). Readymoney is 10 minutes by car from the farm plus a short walk.

The cottages have individual walled and gated gardens, specifically designed to provide a good degree of privacy from other visitors. All have traditional coal barbecues, chimineas (wood provided), table and chairs. Outside badminton court and equipment, plus table tennis. Children's play area with swings, slide and trampoline (complete with safety net). Small farm petting area with chickens, ducks, kune kune pigs, guinea pigs and rabbits. Eggs can be collected daily.

The 'endless' swimming pool measures 14' x 8', with fully adjustable current to swim against. Great facility for both children, and athletes wishing to continue their training program whilst away. This facility is bookable (at no extra cost) making it completely private for each individual family group. Plus rowing machine, exercise bike and separate sauna room on poolside.
