Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in Megalochori - Aegagros Caldera Houses
90m2 Villa in 1 Hectare Vineyard with great views to the Caldera
Aegagros Caldera Houses is composed of 5 independent houses in a 1 hectare vineyard: This 90m2 Villa, three 55m2 houses, and a 50m2 apartment built right on the cliff of the caldera of Megalochori village.
Aegagros Caldera Houses used to be our own houses where we, as a big family, used to spend our summer holidays. Therefore, each house is carefully furnished and decorated with objects and antique furniture of the cycladic tradition. The Houses have now been transformed according to the needs of our visitors, trying as always to maintain the traditional character of the island.
What we want to offer our visitors is a unique holiday which cannot be found anywhere else. Our aim is to welcome you and make you feel like home. To introduce you to Greek hospitality as once described by Homer in Odyssey. As soon as you will set your foot at Aegagros Caldera Houses be prepared: because you will fall in love with every little detail that composes this villa, its location as well as the people that will take care of you.
is all about laid-back luxury for a “home away from home” feeling. You will find it hard to leave the large private terrace with breathtaking views of the caldera cliffs, the volcano and the endless blue sea and sky. Here you will find a generous built-in dining table and benches made from local volcanic stone. Enjoy your breakfast or coffee under the cool, shady pergola, savor the sunset colors or bask in the Greek sunlight in the sunbeds.
The architect-designed interiors are filled with Cycladic tradition and character. The rooms are comfortable, cheerful and bright, with rich natural woods, light plaster walls, barrel vaulted ceilings and handmade tiles. The collection of family heirloom antiques, locally-produced traditional furniture and original works of art bring a unique and family-style charm to the house.
The ground floor has an open-plan living room, kitchen and dining room with a hand-built fireplace and all the little details to make you feel right at home. The kitchen is fully equipped with refrigerator, full cooktop, oven, dishwasher, small convenience appliances, cookware, china and cutlery. Preparing meals here will be an unexpected pleasure as you can gaze out at the spectacular sea and volcano views directly from the kitchen window.
The ground floor bedroom has a charming king size antique iron bed and ensuite bathroom. There are also two very comfortable sofa beds in the Living Room. The two separate bathrooms on the ground floor are simple and elegant, with plaster in rich earth tones and hand-formed built-in showers.
Follow the natural wood stair case to the mezzanine bedroom with two iron and brass antique single beds and family heirloom armoir. These beds can be combined to make one king size bed. The view of the sea and volcano from this little loft window is truly captivating.
With direct onsite parking, the house is unlike most other caldera accommodations. Many of the houses located on the caldera cliffs do not have direct parking and must be accessed by climbing many steps on a footpath, a difficult prospect for weary travelers. You will appreciate the private parking just a few easy steps away from your door, with no stairs to climb.
This 90m2 Villa is perfect for families or friends who are looking for a genuinely private and relaxing retreat focused on the natural beauty of Santorini, away from the hustle and bustle of crowds. Up to six guests can sleep comfortably.
We take great care to provide extra special touches for each guest with true Greek hospitality. Every morning we serve a delicious full breakfast either in your own house or on the large shared terrace directly on the caldera with organic fruits and vegetables from our own gardens, homemade pies and cakes, freshly baked bread, our own home made marmalades and a variety of delicious salty and sweet flavors that change daily! When you arrive, you will be delighted with our warm welcome, which includes a rich delicious meze variety with local and traditional flavors, always accompanied by ice cold Raki or chilled wine. Just when you think it can’t get any better, you will be dazzled by our home made refreshments, our home made Sangria, our refreshing freshly baked pastries and by many more local gourmet surprises that will be offered to you at each sunset!
If you are lucky enough to visit us during the period of the wine harvest in mid-August, known as “Vedema”, you can experience the process of making your own organic wine. During this time, we harvest the grapes from our own private vineyard surrounding the property. This is a festive period with strong Santorini traditions. You can stomp the grapes by foot, an amazing sensation accompanied by traditional songs and sounds! Of course such a fiesta always comes with a savory variety of local snacks and with our own chilled wine or Raki!

About Anastasia Parava
My origins and roots, on my mother's side derive from this wild yet cosmopolitan island of Santorini. The first time I visited Santorini, I was two years old. As soon as I saw this wild, incredible view of the deep blue sea and the volcano I felt connected to the land of my ancestors straight away. However, because of the fact that I spent all my school years in Athens, my need to return back to Santorini every summer and Easter became increasingly important for the peace and balance of my soul. Now at the age of 33, with two beautiful boys and an amazing man by my side, I pass on all this immense heritage to my children as my mother did with me and my brother..
I have studied, Drama, Physical Theatre and Puppet Theatre and in Wintertime I am a puppeteer, I have my own Puppet Company and i create my own shows with which I travel around Greece and abroad.
In Springtime though, Autumn and Summer the big family gets together in order to organise and run Aegagros Caldera Houses. Aegagros was designed by my father Yiannis Paravas one of the best architects in Greece. The land on which Aegagros was built has been passed on from my ancestors to my grandfather and then on to my family. Its first part was built in 1997 and later on the rest of the houses were completed in 2005. Every year we renovate and improve many parts of the complex.
Anastasia Parava purchased this villa in 1997
Why Anastasia Parava chose Megalochori
Aegagros is a vision.
What we propose through this unique type of holidays is a unique experience, a journey from within.
Santorini is widely known as a cosmopolitan destination, but in fact it is Wild, Powerful and Primeval, full of energies, History and Traces from the Past. Once you get there you sense it straight away, and that's where We focus.
We wish to share with our guests Santorini itself in its purest form as it used to be in the old days, when the island was still untouched by mass tourism, excess construction and overrated high class hotels, where tradition and personal contact, hospitality, authentic greek and local cuisine, and human touch were the Norm. What we want to offer our visitors is a unique holiday which cannot be found anywhere else. Our aim is to welcome you and make you feel like home. To introduce you to Greek hospitality as once described by Homer in Odyssey. To bring forward all these qualities this unique island has to offer.
Aegagros Caldera Houses is composed of a million flavors and little moments, it is the perfect combination of beauty, nature, serenity, quality and freedom of soul!
What makes this villa unique
Trough Aegagros we wish to introduce our visitors this wild side of the island through its traditions, its unique characteristics and features. We perform in more sustainable ways taking always into consideration the environment and the island’s traditions: Santorini is an island where water is indeed valuable.
For that reason instead of building swimming pools or Jacuzzis we decided to cultivate local and traditional organic seeds. Also, it is a land of Vines and in the middle of August we have the Vedema, the wine harvest season, a really festive period where locals collect the grapes and with music and traditional songs we all stomp bare feet the grapes in order to extract their precious juice. If you find yourself visiting Aegagros around August don’t forget: you are invited to participate in this amazing fiesta! Of course such a fiesta always comes with a savory variety of local salty flavors and certainly with last year’s chilled wine or Raki!
We also organise workshops of local and Mediterranean gourmet cuisine. By using organic products and vegetables from our front gardens we experience an exciting journey to the local flavors of Santorini. We will share with you all the DELICIOUS little secrets that have been passed on from generation to generation! At the end of the workshop you will finally enjoy the fruits of your loins with an amazing dinner that includes a starter, a main course, and a delicious desert!
Every Morning we prepare the most delicious Home made Breakfast with organic fruits and vegetables from our front gardens, home made pies and cakes, freshly baked bread, our own home made marmalades, a variety of delicious salty and sweet flavors that alter daily.
At your arrival we welcome you with a rich delicious meze variety with local and traditional flavors! Accompanied by ice cold Raki or chilled wine. Daily surprises: Every afternoon we serve our home made refreshments, home made Sangria or our cool pastries.
Guestbook comments from the owner
All the praises one can give a vacation house are suitable for aegagros.
The hosts are wonderful people who make their guests feel like being treated as real friends, and at home, while not being overly friendly nor intrusive. They shared the best they have with us. What more can one ask for?
Megalochori, the town that aegragros is located, is a quiet little village where one can get away from most of the touristy establishments, (plus the noisy tourists), and enjoy the stunning beauty that the Island's nature has to offer.
The houses are quite by themselves on the edge of the village, near the sea. But a few minutes' walk is all it takes to get to the village, where one can meet the lovely locals, and have good food. The location is fairly well connected to other places on the island with buses. It is near the port as well as the airport. My friend and I managed without renting any vehicle during our stay.
One of the highlights aegagros offers has got to be the delicious homemade breakfast which is different every morning! The houses and the garden are very well kept and cleaned everyday. All in all, the place is quite perfect.
