'COSY, WELL-RESTORED, TRADITIONAL' - WHERE TO SKI & SNOWBOARD GUIDE 2013.

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday chalet in Samoens - L'Ancienne Fromagerie

Self catered, village centre, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathroooms, wood burner

L'Ancienne Fromagerie. This beautiful chalet forms part of Samoens 19th century cheese dairy, entirely renovated in 2007. It is light and spacious throughout; with a generous 83m2 of accommodation cleverly laid out over 3 floors. It comprises three bedrooms and two bathrooms sleeping 9 people.Ideally situated, 200m from the historic village centre and its shops and restaurants. It has a terrace to the side ideally for dining and bathing in the sun. The free ski bus is 300m away, going directly to the Grand Massif Express lift. With original exposed beams, it's been tastefully refurbished. There is an open plan lounge and dining area with a double sofa bed, large table with ample seating and wonderful views. A wood burning stove provides a focal point in the living area. The well equipped kitchen area has ample work space and new appliances. The lower floor has a large family bedroom with double bed, bunk beds and hand basin. There is a bathroom on this level. Upstairs 2 further bedrooms 1 single and 1 double and the 2nd bathroom.

The chalet has off road parking for 2/3 cars and a shed for secure storage for equipment such as bikes and skis. To the side of the property there is a terrace and garden for outside dining equipped with table, chairs, parasol, relaxers and BBQ and is ideal for relaxing and soaking up the alpine atmosphere of the village.

The Grand Massif Express lift is now open in summer as well as winter; and provides great opportunities for walkers, bikers, para-gliders and sports enthusiasts alike.

Winter facts….The Grand Massif is the 4th largest ski area in France and has one of the lowest lift to beds ratios…so much smaller queues than other well know resorts. Samoens now has a high speed lift from 1600m up to 2500m…this means less queuing, less time on the lifts and more skiing!

Other Information: There has never been a better time to holiday in the Samoens area, with an abundance of activities to choose from, breathtaking scenery to enjoy, a delightful village to explore and friendly locals to meet.

Getting there…Geneva is the nearest airport.

Summer: Samoens is thriving in summer and offers an excellent holiday destination for family activities. With average temperatures in the mid to late 20s and numerous activities on the doorstep, it's a holiday destination not to be missed. With the Grand Massif Express lift now open in summer, you can easily enjoy: Mountain biking, hiking, climbing, rafting and other river activities, quad biking, horse riding, canyoning, swimming in lakes, adventure parks, parapenting, archery, golf, historic tours, botanical gardens, waterfalls, nature reserve, wildlife walks, kids club etc... These are all within 5 minutes of Samoens! A little further afield is Annecy, Geneva and Chamonix Mont Blanc. If this is all too much, then simply relax in the numerous cafés and even at the beaches that surround the local lakes. It’s not essential to drive, but in summer a car is useful and the chalet is only 8 hours drive from Calais. Airport transfers and a taxi service operates in Samoens.

Our second trip to Samoens, first to the Fromagerie. Wonderful Chalet, log fire, really made it on very cold winter evenings. Village is lovely, Skiing was fantastic although beds were so comfy we nearly didn’t get to the slopes. Another great holiday Thanks.

Views from the house are stunning

  • Review Submitted: 15-Sep-2013

This was my first visit to Samoens. The house has been beautifully renovated to show the old beams, yet has been modernised. The skiing is fantastic; I had lessons with ESF and progressed quickly. I definitely recommend them. The views from the house are stunning and I would love to come back in the summer or winter time.”

Loved Samoens, loved the Fromagerie. Well appointed for everything we wanted and beautifully presented. Kids didn't want to leave and neither did we! Will recommend to our friends and would love to return in winter time.

L’Ancienne Fromagerie is situated in the French Alps, in the medieval village of Samoens. One of the prettiest villages in France, and is the only winter and summer sports resort in France to be listed as a ’Monument Historique’. Ideally situated, it is just 200m from the historic village centre where you can find the boulangerie for fresh bread, croissants and cakes, supermarkets for stocking up on essentials and a wide selection of specialist shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. In winter the free ski bus is a few minutes walk away, which takes you directly to the Grand Massif Express lift.

The area provides spectacular scenery, mountains. including mountain lakes, botanical garden, national parks and provides the centre for almost every outdoor activity imaginable, for all ages, summer or winter.

It is close to the borders of Switzerland and Italy, and day trips can be taken to Chamonix, Annecy or perhaps Lake Geneva, the largest lake in Europe or Mont Blanc the highest mountain.

Samoëns is only 50 minutes drive from Geneva International Airport., 540 miles from Calais, 20 minutes drive from the motorway exit , and the TGV train station at Cluses.

The Grand Massif is the 4th largest ski-linked area in France. It rises up to an altitude of 2500m. Surrounded by grandiose scenery, the Grand Massif affords a truly breath-taking panoramic view of the French side of the Mont Blanc mountain range. The 5 linked resorts - Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt - are remarkably diverse.

During the summer, the weather is usually in the high 20s - perfect for swimming, walking, cycling, rafting, or visiting neighbouring towns and lakes in France, Switzerland or Italy.

The location is brilliant and right from the chalet door step are routes for road cycling, mountain biking and hill/mountain walking.

Why not try the challenging Col du Joux Plan cycle ride or one of the many rides on http://www.mapmyride.com/fr/samoens-rhone-alpes or perhaps walking into Switzerland from the chalet. Leave the car behind and take to the mountains and stay in one of the many refuges and break the walk, easily accessible from the chalet.

A mountain bikers paradise -hundreds of miles of well signposted cycle paths, and a wide of range of length and difficulty. In the high season it is possible to take bikes up the mountains on chairlifts and to cycle down.

Samoens' outdoor leisure complex is situated an easy walk along a footpath next to the river. The leisure centre has two beautiful lakes for fishing and boating, football pitches, 6 tennis courts, basketball/skate park, play park for children, archery and a golf driving range into the lake!

Two large swimming pools (one for 'swimming' and the other for 'playing'), an infants pool and a 60m water slide (tenins, swimming and archery are payable).

Also within the leisure complex is the Tarzan-style 'Indiana Park' forest park, which consists of climbing rope ladders, crossing suspended bridges between trees then whizzing down zip lines! There are different courses based on age and ability.

The market is one of the largest in the Haute Savoie and well worth a stroll around on Wednesday mornings, selling everything from speciality food, wine, clothes and gifts.

Other Activities: Via Ferrata, climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, walking, horse-riding, paragliding, waterfalls, gorges, mountain lakes, archery, tennis, rafting, sledding, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice skating

Golf: 7 Courses within 1 hours drive. The 18 hole Golf courses at Les Carroz and Les Gets boasts fantastic views, and uncrowded fairways. Other golfing challenges in the area include an 18 hole course at Les Gets, a 9 hole course at Avoriaz, and a practice range at Samoëns with a driving range over water and a putting green.

Ski: The free ski bus is a few minutes’ walk from the chalet, which takes you directly to the high speed Grand Massif Express gondola, which takes just 8 minutes to reach Samoens 1600 and the extensive ski of the Grand Massif, with 144 of pistes and over 260 km of skiing. Samoens connects to the Flaine ski area and its renowned bowl and the pretty tree lined resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt. It is an impressive ski area with a choice of both challenging blacks, red, blue and gentle green runs to satisfy all skiing levels, including the famous 14km Les Cascades blue run from Flaine.
