Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Bauduen - La Petite Fleur

A Simple Double Bedroom Getaway In A Quaint Historic Village House

Welcome to La Petite Fleur, our honest and simple medieval bolt hole, hidden away in Bauduen, a quiet Provençal village. Surrounded by the magnificent Lake Sainte-Croix, the village is nestled in the scented hills and mountains unique to this region.

We can promise a true experience of life in the slow lane. Living in London ourselves, we know how important rest from the world can be, which is why the apartment is dedicated to simple pleasures- reading, eating olives, drinking wine- ooh, and sleeping.

Our beautiful apartment boasts the doorstep convenience of fresh-water swimming from miles of unspoilt lakeside (the water's so clean it is used for drinking), hillside walks (sometimes glimpsing eagles and vultures) and stunning scenery.

The village has plenty to offer in terms of eating out, and the 30 second walk to the award-winning boulangerie can be performed half-asleep and in slippers!

La Petite Fleur can be used as a base for discovering wonderful perched villages such as the world-famous Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (only 20 minutes away) or the numerous vineyards that dot the region. Or- as we would also highly recommend- simply use La Petite Fleur as a base for just being and playing in the sunshine.

We have aimed to provide all that is needed for a peaceful, relaxing break. The kitchen is set up for all the delights Provence has to offer- most importantly, a corkscrew and a saucisson knife...

Entering through an historic walnut doorway this intimate residence has a good-sized living and dining area, leading onto the spacious double bedroom- which is well insulated against even the most oppressive summer heat! An additional foldaway bed is also available.

A TV/DVD player is provided (for watching DVDs only), together with a selection of DVDs and an iPod dock.

La Petite Fleur also has a separate shower room and WC, as well as two hot-plates and combination oven for cooking.

Suitable for children and we would also consider taking pets, please enquire.

All linen and towels (apart from beach towels) provided. High-chair also available.

About Richard Stewart

We live in London but fell in love with Bauduen many years ago; in fact, we were married there in 2008 and still retain family ties to the village. We totally understand the need to get away from it all and to relax, and this timeless village fits the bill perfectly.

Richard Stewart purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Richard Stewart chose Bauduen

We have spent many happy summers in La Petite Fleur; it is an ideal choice for those seeking a quiet, relaxing romantic break. The apartment can also provide a fantastic base for those who want a more active holiday.

What makes this apartment unique

The village of Bauduen is unique; it is located high in the hills, well away from the muggy coast, yet boasts a beautiful lake literally right on La Petite Fleur's doorstep. The apartment is tucked away off the main street, yet is a stone's throw from the local bar and family-run restaurants. Lose yourself in Bauduen's medieval streets, and take a trip back in time where the only sounds are the chirrups of the swallows overhead.

Simple, quiet, peaceful, delightful!

  • 5 out of 5
We had a lovely week in Bauduen at La Petite Fleur. The apartment is simple but complete, and right in the heart of the village. We spent some days walking, kayaking on the lake, visiting local beauty spots, and just had a fabulous time. Bauduen is well placed for seeing the various sites of the Lac. We had some good meals at local restaurants. The owners were very kind, contacting us to make sure we'd got into the apartment OK and patiently replied to our emails beforehand when as asked various questions.

I think we benefited from going out of high season as the roads/restaurants/tourists spots weren't too busy, and it also helped that the weather was good. I would recommend the apartment (and the area) highly.

Very nice appartment

  • 4 out of 5
The appartment is located in the nice, calm village Bauduen. Only 30 meters away from the local bakery where you can get delicious croissants and baguette! The apartment was clean and well-equipped and is perfect for couples. We got a very nice welcome there with fresh flowers and sparkling wine. The owner was very nice, advising and replied our e-mails promtly. The region is perfect for those who like to relax, doing sports, visit old villages, see great nature, enjoy local food...

Exactly what we were looking for

  • 5 out of 5
We are a family of five from Sweden - parents traveling with 3 small children (2,6 and 8) - who wanted to experience the Gorge du Verdon. Though small the apartment was the perfect set out for our exploration of the area. Our kids shared a madras on the floor and a small couch, but they preferred our days in Bauduen to the week we had just spend at a wine castle in Languedoc, and to the three days we had spend at the beach in Palavas Le Flotes.
Probably the reason was that though the apartment was small for us, it had all we needed and the area offers so much to do and see. We went canoing both from the village and into the Gorge from the north end of the lake. This gave plenty of possibility to swim and jump from the rocks into the river.
One day our two oldest children and their father went for what turned out to be an 11 km hike along the lake shore anticlockwise back into the village. They loved it and came back happy, sweaty and tired.
One late afternoon we talk the scenic drive along the Gorge, stopped at Point Sublime, where you can see eagles and Vultures gliding in the sky. The drive is rather scary for anyone who is afraid of hights but offers absolutely incredible views just the same.
July 14th we went to the nearby town Riez, enjoying the fields of Lavender on our way. In Riez we enjoyed a lovely vintage market, had a good dinner and watched the most incredible fireworks at night-fall. Absolutely amazing.
We would warmly recommend anyone to experience Bauduen, the Gorge and the area - and not least 'La Petit Fleur'.

Bauduen lakeside
Car: necessary

Bauduen is a beautiful medieval village in the department of Var, which forms part of Provence in the South of France. Originally perched high above the Verdon river, the village now stands right on the magnificent Lake Sainte-Croix.

Bauduen is just over one hour inland from the coast at St. Tropez. The village is surrounded on three sides by Lake Sainte-Croix (about the size of Windermere).

The weather is usually fantastic with more than 300 days of clear blue skies: hot but with plenty of air - the village is quite high and the wind benefits wind-surfing and yachting.

The lake is also gorgeous for swimming (it is so clean it is a source of drinking water). Bathing is supervised on the village's main beach during summer - and there are miles of lakeside so you can always find a secluded bay to bathe.

In Bauduen’s pretty streets you will find that time has stood still with an ancient wash house, old church, presbytery and olive oil mill. However, the lake provides an abundance of opportunities for those who just want to relax on the beach or would prefer something more adventurous. There is excellent swimming, sailing and windsurfing; or, if you prefer, just hire a pedalo.

There are several cafés, bars and excellent restaurants and, in summer, there is frequent entertainment. Out of season the village is very tranquil - an ideal retreat for a relaxing romantic break. The lake stays warm until the end of October.

Bauduen is surrounded by breathtaking scenery and picturesque Provençal villages. There is a market in a different local town every day of the week (Bauduen’s is Sunday morning) and there are numerous vide-greniers (literally “attic clearances”- bric-a-brac mornings) throughout the season- there’s always a bargain to be had!

For walkers, whether you want a relaxing stroll or dramatic hike, there is something for you. The magnificent Gorges du Verdon are close by and traditional markets abound in pretty villages such as Aups, Riez, Moustiers, Cotignac and Tourtour.

There are many cru classé vineyards in the region for those who would like to follow a wine trail or who simply want to stock up on the essentials! For the adventurous there is canyoning, kayaking and rock climbing in the Gorges, or you can drive around them for a fantastic afternoon out.

For nature lovers you will find our hillsides full of spring flowers and herbs and there are wild boar and deer, eagles, buzzards and even vultures! Lavender, sunflowers and olives are commercially grown close to the village.

For those who want a fabulous shopping experience then all of Aix-en-Provence, St. Tropez, Cannes and Nice can be reached in under two hours.

There is a very well stocked supermarket in Aups, 15 minutes’ drive away, with a local shop in the village for essentials.
