By the book
Known to locals as Noho, the area north of Oxford Street has famously been home to some of the most influential intellectuals of the 20th century. This little corner of central London still teams with their Bohemian spirit, and remains one of the city’s most exciting cultural hubs. You’ll find the British Museum and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, as well as Fitzroy Square, the erstwhile stomping ground of George Bernard Shaw and Virginia Woolf. Drift down past George Orwell’s preferred pub on Charlotte Street, or enjoy Soho’s carnival atmosphere before retiring to this two bedroom pad for a good night’s sleep.
Man and superman
Spending most of his time in New York, where his partner runs cable television channels, your host likes to keep a foot on the ground in London’s affluent Fitzrovia. His career as a financial advisor gives him the freedom to pursue what he loves: fine dining, travel and theatre. Evidence of these passions is peppered throughout his immaculately stylish home.
A room of one’s own
Whispering tales of eastern adventures, this sleek home combines Japanese minimalism, Chinese decadence and modern European luxury. In the sitting room, recline on one of the low slung beige sofas, and bask in the glow of the veiled window light. Plush, pleated cushions break up the clean lines and offer a tempting spot to rest a head and watch the huge, flat screen TV. A whimsical Chinese Fu dog statue holds vigil over the scene, while on the walls hang delicate sketches of places faraway. Over in the kitchen-diner, take a cue from your host and create something delicious using the high-end appliances, and enjoy it around the 50s-inspired dining suite. Down the hall to the double bedroom, relax on the king-sized bed with its dark leather frame as two Asian elephants square up in the frame above, or head through to the bathroom and plunge into a hot bath with a book to envision the area’s intellectual elite. Over in the master suite, slide between the crisp, white sheets of the king sized bed, and dream literary dreams of old Fitzrovia.
