Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Maida Vale - Bristol Mews
2 bedroom, 3 bathroom, mews house located in a quiet pocket of West London
Very little compares to Little Venice. A warren of waterways flanked with floating cafes, colourful narrowboats and noble moorhens, it’s as poetic as its name suggests. And once your cares have quite drifted away, do swap the canal for the cobblestones of this romantic home. With its quaint courtyard and wonderful array of Asian art, antiques and books, Bristol Mews is as cultured as it is cosy. The main living area is open plan and endlessly sophisticated, while sunlight settles into each elegant armchair. Outdoors, you can catch a boat-trip, picnic in Hyde Park or, for a change of pace, there’s always nearby Notting Hill…
Your well-travelled hostess has filled her home with oriental décor and artwork. Her two sons live in Hong Kong and the United States, and she has five grandchildren. Although retired, she still gives the occasional lecture on her favourite subject, art.
Just like Little Venice itself, this home’s quaintly cobbled courtyard seems a million miles from the hubbub of London. Indeed, with Asian artwork and furniture at every turn, it’s brimming with eastern promise. Pad up the stairs and past the laden bookcase to the sitting room. Here, white walls, a dusky fireplace and oriental objets d’art provide plenty for the roving eye to enjoy, while you rest roving legs on the deep sofa or a snug armchair. Ease a book from the shelves or head round the corner to the commodious and modern kitchen. Once dinner’s ready, four can feast at the handsome table.
You’ve a sweet single bedroom, harmonious in white, while the master boasts a double bed, more pretty artwork and an impeccable ensuite. Two more sparkly bathrooms await, both a-brim with our White Company goodies and fluffy towels.
Nurse a pint in a waterside pub, catch some comedy at the Canal Café Theatre or drowse in pretty Rembrandt Gardens. You can amble along the towpath to Regent’s Park or scatter applause upon the players at Lord’s. The shopping doesn’t get better than the upmarket boutiques of Westbourne Grove – but, of course, there’s always the West End. The tube from Warwick Avenue to Oxford Circus takes a miniscule eleven minutes.
