Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Knightsbridge - First Street 2
2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, townhouse close to Hyde Park in Southwest London
Knightsbridge has known a lot of history since the years of knights-errant, and just beyond this Georgian door you’ll find a goodly deal of it. Tipsy with tradition, in just such a home gentlemen of learning might have lunched, swapped scientific notions over port and proceeded to a museum. Now, museum legs can be rested on the squashy sofas before you go and inspect its own gallery of treasures. The walls are dotted about with paintings, the plush carpets with elegant antiques. But you won’t just be pondering the past. With Chelsea and Kensington within a handful of minutes, you can live like there’s no tomorrow.
Your host is based in Wiltshire, where he lives a restful country life. He has two children, three dogs and a love for riding horses.
Night at the museum
This is a home to really pique the interest. Paintings greet your glance from each wall, and you’ll even spot a Van de Velde seapiece floating over the antique furniture. Head to the sitting room to find artwork aplenty, and the choice of two plump sofas in which to sit and appreciate the view. The kitchen is handsome, with four able to feast at its elegant dining table, which glows in the lamplight.
Downstairs, you’ll find the twin bedroom. Some impressive antiques, from a weathered wardrobe to an eloquent armchair, make this the most traditional of chambers. You’ve a shower room and even another kitchen on this level – perfect for mixing up that cooling glass and taking it into the garden. Upstairs, you’ll pass a peaceful night in the master bedroom, cosy, arty and furnished with yet more graceful antiques. The bathroom is large and laden with our White Company goodies.
Take the air
Tradition dictates that you shop at Harrods and Harvey Nichols, before strolling through the lovely pastures of Hyde Park. The museums at South Ken grow yearly more fascinating, and you’re a short walk from each of them. As if your perch wasn’t already perfect, turn the other way to find Chelsea’s timeless charms ready and waiting. The tube from South Kensington to Oxford Circus takes under fifteen minutes.
