Cup runneth over

Those with a thirst for history will sup deep upon Wisteria House. Built in 1740, this double-fronted home sits just moments from the Thames. The front reaches towards the water, while the rear of the house overlooks Fuller’s Brewery. The kegs are colourful, while the air is fruity with the scent of hops. Nurse a pint in The Dove, or for a little more sustenance try dinner at Pissarro’s or La Trompette. The elegant lawns of Chiswick House are around the corner, while Hammersmith is just a walk away. Yes, if you want to drink life to the lees, this is just the place to do it.

Your hosts are both solicitors, with a particular interest in architectural history. In fact, your hostess volunteers for a building conservation charity. You’ll find a number of architectural guides on the shelves of her exquisitely restored home.

Your round

You’ve two sitting rooms, both on the first floor, one grand, with a marble fireplace and gilded portrait, and one more intimate, with shelves full of books. The proportions are generous and the colour palette refreshingly cool. Antiques sit alongside décor that combines retro and modern, enriched by gorgeous artwork and jewel-bright fabrics. The large, country-style kitchen opens out onto the paved garden. Here, peonies nod their blowsy pink heads over mossy cobbles, and you can eat beneath the foliage or around the kitchen table by the AGA.

There’s a double bedroom down on the lower ground floor, with a beamed ceiling and an ensuite. The master bedroom is up on the second floor, where the king-sized sleigh bed sits in calm splendour, and the ensuite holds a walk-in shower and a freestanding bath. The girls’ twin is romantically feminine, with vintage textiles and a simple shower room, while in the boys’ triple there are books, more antiques, and next door an ensuite with a fitted bath. And those with inclinations tending towards the solitary will adore the attic double. It’s a peaceful eyrie among the beams, with a large ensuite in brooding cobalt.

Home truths The home backs onto a Fullers brewery so there is some general noise during the day and depending on the wind direction you can sometimes smell the hops. The home is near a main road and general traffic noise can be heard in certain rooms in the home throughout the day. The is a basic kitchenette, dining room and double bedroom on the lower ground floor. The wardrobe for the master bedroom is in the master ensuite bathroom. In the girls' twin bedroom there is a small singe bed, which is slightly shorter and smaller than a standard single. An full size single airbed can be setup if a full size is preferred, please speak with our reservations team to make the arrangements for your stay if required. There is a minimum stay of four nights in this home.
