Holiday Castle for maximum of 18 persons

A beautiful 17th century chateau with guesthouse surrounded by a private park of 8 hectares of roses, orchards, river and extraordinary plants. The chateau has recently been completely renovated to a luxurious and comfortable standard with attractive living spaces and kitchen. All 6 bedrooms are large and have an ensuite bathroom and toilet. The living room has a magnificent open fireplace and extensive views over the gardens, The library/TV room opens onto its own terrace The dining room is the perfecr place for the special occaiaion. All rooms are individually designed with a mixture of antiques and modern style. The kitchen is fully equipped and has easy access to the attractive terrace and private heated pool.

This charming cottage is set apart from the main chateau along the driveway, and overlooks a woodland garden. It sleeps 4-6 people and comprises 2 bathrooms with shower and toilet, 2 bedrooms and a double sofa bed in the salon.

Sleeping Accommodation:

Spacious beamed Master Bedroom (25m²) with a double bed and large sitting area. 1 cot. Views over the woodland gardens.

Bright smaller bedroom (15m²) with interesting window features and a double bed.

Upstairs bathroom with a walk-in shower and a separate toilet.

Downstairs a larger bathroom with a walk-in shower and an integrated toilet.

There is also a double sofa bed in the salon. A cot and highchair is available.

Quality bedding, and bathroom/ kitchen linen are provided.

Living Accommodation:

The 25m² Salon has french windows, antique flooring and a wood burning stove making this a bright and comfortable space. It opens onto a country kitchen/dining room with a kitchen area newly fitted with hob/oven, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Television, satellite and DVD facilities are provided.

French doors lead to a small patio, a separate lawned area and the woodland garden beyond.

Sleeps 10-14 people with 4 large bedrooms, each with a modern ensuite bathroom and toilet. The bedrooms are fully furnished with comfortable new beds. Sleeping Accommodation can be extended through the use of the Petit Salon and/or the large Entrée on the ground floor. A cot is also available.

•Stunning Master Suite (30m²) with an extra large double wrought iron bed, walk-in shower, toilet and sitting area. Views across the garden to the river.

•Blue Suite (22m²), a pretty bedroom with a large double canopied bed and 2 armchairs. Bathroom with bath/overhead shower/toilet. Views to baroque garden.

•Green Suite (18m²), a chic, bright room with a large double bed, a rocking chair and a bathroom with walk-in shower/toilet. Views to the kitchen garden and over the oriental garden to the Orangery.

•Beamed Loft Suite (35m²) with a double bed and 2 singles set in a spacious open area with a separate shower room/toilet. Ideal for teenagers/children. The best garden views.

•Petit Salon (22m²); a double sofa bed with a shared separate toilet off the adjacent Grand Salon.

•Entrée (10m²); a standard double bed with a shared separate toilet off the Grand Salon.

Quality bedding and bathroom linen are provided.

Living Accommodation:

Ground Floor

The centerpiece is a magnificent Grand Salon boasting a baronial style open fireplace. To one side is the Petit Salon, a beautiful light room with full length french windows. It houses the Wifi, Internet, television, satellite and DVD facilities. To the other side is an elegant dining room - the perfect place for a special occasion. At this level there is also a toilet, cloak room and separate entrée.

Garden Floor

Here you will find a large additional dining/breakfast room with a 2.2m refectory table, under floor heating and an old open hearth. This room opens onto a superbly equipped kitchen with oven/hob, microwave, American style fridge/freezer, dishwasher and an extensive array of kitchen utensils and equipment. A washing machine/dryer is in an adjoining utility room. A high chair is provided.

The garden floor opens directly onto a large stone terrace - laid out for summer dining and sunbathing - and overlooks a private heated pool. (10m x 5m; max depth 1.4m with a security cover when not in use).

Why Sharon van Halm chose Mézilles

Mezilles:

Mezilles is reputed to be one of the prettiest villages in France. The Chateau is 5 minutes walk from the centre of the village where, crossing a quaint old pedestrian bridge or driving across the picturesque river ford, you will find an artisan bakery, a grocery store, a café/bar and 2 excellent restaurants, including the Mare Aux Fees (www.restaurant-mareauxfees.fr).

In August Mezilles hosts one of the largest Flea Markets in France - it runs non-stop for 2 days and bargaining is essential! There are tennis courts, mini golf and horseriding facilities within the village.

Locality:

The nearest town is Toucy (10km) with its renowned Saturday market offering samples of local produce and wines. Its fortified church dominates the old town that has many local stores and the convenience of 3 supermarkets.

10km in the other direction lies St Fargeau with its monumental chateau and spectacular Son et Lumiere on Friday and Saturday evenings in mid summer.

Mezilles itself sits in the heart of the Puisaye, a beautiful, almost untouched rural area with forests and pastures, dotted with ancient villages and small towns bordered to the south by the Morvan National Park. Recreational activities in the area include walking, hiking, fishing, canoeing, sailing, swimming, horseriding, cycling, tree-walking. Nearby Roncemay has an internationally regarded 18-hole golf-course (par 72,slope 140).

The local vineyards of Chablis, Irancy and Sancerre are within easy reach along dappled lanes. A little further afield are the medieval towns of Beaune and Dijon, with their historic well preserved centres and their famous 'cotes' offering the best of burgundy wine for the connoisseurs amongst you!

What makes this castle unique

The 18 acres (8 hectares) of gardens are a joy for adults and children alike.

Relax around the terrace and heated outdoor pool and take in the view down to the river with its picturesque bridge. Or take a stroll around the gardens and admire the skilful blend of beautiful flowerbeds, rose gardens, mowed lawns, exquisite topiary and old statuary.

There is plenty of space for younger or more energetic guests to have fun - playing ball games on the extensive lawns, or hide and seek in the woodlands. Take a stepping stone bridge to the bambouserie and cut a bamboo rod to fish in the river. Find the old 'lavoir', where the washing was done in days gone by. Spot the birds and other wildlife that are regular visitors.

The discreet gardener visits Monday to Friday mornings to maintain the grounds, tend the glasshouses and to ensure in the kitchen garden and orchard there's a ready supply of seasonal produce for you - just speak to him.

Whatever the season, the garden is beautiful. In springtime the woodland areas are carpeted in bulbs. In early autumn hundreds of dahlias dance in a swirl of colour, followed by the red, orange and yellow hues of the autumnal trees. At Christmas time, guests can select and cut their own Christmas tree and garlands. Throughout the summer the gardens constantly evolve as each flower or shrub comes into season.

So there is always something to delight the senses and something to look forward to.
