Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Cher - Chateau Sologne, 22468
Part of a magnificent Chateau set in wooded parkland.
Four centuries ago, this castle was built as a hunting lodge for the chancellor of the French King, and it has the majestic spreading confidence of a building designed by a man who is the proud owner of the wealth of wooded and waterside hectares he surveys. In construction unmistakably French, severely symmetrical, with a long low enfilade of windows connecting two corner towers, sharply roofed in slate. Beyond is a vast vista of forest, presumably teeming with wild boar, deer, and all the other warm-blooded ingredients of a baronial feast.
A fresh, irreverent approach to the awesome grandeur of this building makes for an inviting, intriguing interior. It is characterized by intelligent exploitation of the historic elements of these rooms - terra cotta floors, beamed ceilings, monumental carved stone door and window surrounds - while addressing their doughty solidity by bold colour use, a generous leavening of interesting modern art, and the softening effect of opulent fabrics and carpets.
Kitchen: Eminently practical, with oven, dishwasher, fridge, microwave and washing machine, this room has a scale and grandeur to remind you that you are eating your potage in a veritable castle. High wooden beamed ceiling, glazed double doors out to the garden, a golden Moroccan lantern, mutable hand-made tiles, a terra cotta floor, and a long farmhouse table that seats ten comfortably make this an inviting room with plenty of personality.
Salon: Unabashed drama in a huge (60sq.m), splendid room that marries the rough wooden beams and massive stonework of history with cinnabar red walls, strong statement art and a dazzling chandelier. Along with the obvious necessities of comfortable sofa and armchairs in plenty, low tables for chess or cards, and a roaring open fire. Glazed double doors open into the grounds.
TV Room: A glorious sunshine yellow room, transformed by heavy curtains into an intimate hideaway, furnished with a double sofa bed, comfortable armchairs and footstools.
Bedroom 1: The master bedroom with stupendous views of the grounds. The room contains a double bed that can convert to two singles. It has its own en suite bathroom.
Bedroom 2: A double bed that can convert to twin beds. This room has its own bathroom.
Bedroom 3: An excellent family room with a double bed that can convert to twin beds. There is also an extra bed.
Bedroom 4: A double bed.
Bathroom: Shared between bedrooms 3 and 4.
There is a private swimming pool for the use of the guests, enclosed within a walled garden. The park is a huge area demanding exploration, and for fishermen there is the ultimate luxury of being able to wander out from your breakfast coffee, armed with fishing paraphernalia, to a peaceful sojourn at the riverbank, possibly providing dinner thanks to your efforts. There is an idyllic sheltered gazebo for outdoor dining.
