I grew up in PA, USA and have lived in the Dominican Republic & Ecuador for a few years. I have built up friendships with the locals and since it's outside of the 'typical' touristy spots, I couldn't resist to build a house here.
Danielle purchased this house in 2013
Why Danielle chose Puerto Plata
I wanted to build a house in this rustic town since I like to be in a relaxed, quiet local town yet close to the beach. But hey, don't let it fool you, it's close enough to major cities and beaches when you want a change. Its an island!!
What makes this house unique
The house has a lot of land around it - so no, you will not look through your window and see what your neighbors are doing!! You can relax in this house as it is comfortable and modern and from the outside porch while grilling, you may see cows walking by!
Guestbook comments from the owner
My wife and I had an excellent time staying at Danielle's beautiful home in Luperon. This is not a tourist/resort destination, so it may not be for the less adventurous, but for those interested in the real Dominican Republic, you will be richly rewarded. There are several excellent beaches within a short drive. Some of the green mountainous scenery is so beautiful it is almost painful. The people are extremely friendly and gracious. There are several day trip options also available. Danielle was also an excellent host. She has a beautiful 2-bedroom home that looks exactly like the photos. We stayed for 6 weeks and regret it wasn't longer. The pool is gorgeous for peaceful afternoons. The night sky is filled with stars. This is around a farming community, so I must say we really enjoyed seeing the cows, chickens, turkeys, donkeys, etc. Coming from Chicago, I initially wasn't sure I would be able to buy sufficient food in Luperon. But once we started exploring the little shops and restaurants, we actually never left Luperon to buy anything. If you are a good swimmer, the beaches have impressive coral reefs with lots of sea treasure (small conches, urchin shells, white shells, fish, brain corral, fan corral, etc). I only took dead shells without inhabitants. The tourist areas around Punta Cana or Boca Chica have many annoying hustlers trying to make money. You won't have any of this is Luperon. We had a hard time spending more than $6 a day on food and grocery shopping. A guy fixed my flat tire for $2.50. We mostly went to the beaches (Playa Grande, Playa Chiquita, Playa Cambiosa, and Playa Isabella/Casillo), The closest airport would be Puerto Plata - about an hour away. Weather was perfect. I highly recommend Danielle and Luperon for someone looking to get away for a quiet adventure.
