I retired to this lovely island seven years ago. Before that I lived in central London for over 30 years. That's why I now prefer to live further from the center of town and heavy traffic.
Enisa Stricker purchased this house in 2007
I bought this house because I wanted to live close to unspoilt nature and yet have an easy and quick access to the centre of Funchal.
I am very near a beautiful forest ideally suited for daily walking and enjoying this exquisite, peaceful region of unique natural beauty and diverse scenery.
The house is built at such an angle that even during the hottest weather the inside of the house is just pleasantly warm, never oppressively hot.
It is suited in a lovely, quiet suburb, residential area on one of a small central hills, 10 minutes by car to the centre of town.
You can enjoy daily walk and run in the forest and go for a swim in the sea on the same afternoon.
This is an ideal place to get away from it all, stay and exercise in a fresh air, far from noise and traffic, connect with nature and enjoy the most spectacular views over surrounding hills, the Funchal harbour and the sea beyond.
The house was very well equipped and clean with plenty of room. We loved the views from the terrace- a fabulous place for breakfast. Enisa was very helpful, giving good advice on places to visit and made us feel very much at home. The little cafe just down the road was a great place for coffee and cakes at remarkable prices. We had good walks including Sao Lourenco,Pico Ruivo and The Nun's Valley. We also enjoyed walking down the hill into town and then getting a bus or taxi home. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Maderia it is fabulous!
We are three friends who were looking for a 3 bedded villa as a base for our first holiday in Madeira. We were not disappointed, it is very spacious accommodation with amazing views over Funchal from the lounge, terraces and bedrooms. We had some inclement weather towards the end of our stay so the log fire was most welcome.
We opted to use local transport rather than hiring a car and it worked well for us - a weekly bus ticket for unlimited travel in the Funcgal area cost just over €22 each but you need to be reasonably fit as there is a very steep climb up from the bus stop.
The owner, Enisa was lovely and thought of everything from buying our bus tickets in advance to organising shopping for our first night/ morning as we arrived in the evening. Its fair to say she went above the call of duty and it was greatly appreciated.
We did a couple of Levada walks which we enjoyed and visited the botanical gardens and went down from Monte on a sledge which was great fun.
We found some really good restaurants and would recommend them, some are:-
La Au Fundo - just before museum of contemporary art (yellow fort); Venda da Donna Maria in Rua de Santa Maria ( the road with interesting painted doors; Escolia Hotel - Portuguese cooking school - amazing value €7 for 3 course buffet lunch!
We had lunch at Miradouro snack bar near to the bus stop and view point at Cabo Girao which again was excellent value for money.
Our tips - visit the amazing Funchal indoor market but read tips on trip advisor first as there are some rogue market traders on the first floor. Take warm clothes in case of bad weather as the temperature can plummit.
All in all a really lovely holiday that was great value for money.
We are very recent converts to winter sun holidays and when casting around for somewhere fun to stay we found Enisa's villa and couldn't believe our luck. It really looked like the perfect place to stay. On arrival we were even more pleasantly surprised for the villa and magnificent view are even better than the pictures on the website.
Enisa was attentive and saw to our every need, but respected our privacy. She gave us insider suggestions of places to visit and pointed us to places we hadn't considered and our stay was all the more enjoyable for that.
On arrival we had a wonderful time at the Funchal Carnival - a massive bonus as we hadn't planned for that. Other lovely places to visit included the Botanical Gardens and the Pirate Ship (Santa Maria) which our kids particularly enjoyed. We also did some fantastic levada walks but they aren't necessarily for the faint-hearted - some of the heights were a bit vertiginous!
All in all a brilliant stay & we would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of visiting the island
We spent Christmas in Enisas´s beautiful house and we could not have had a better accommodation for the family consisting of parents and three adult sons. The house is very spacious and everything is of high quality.
The house is located on the mountainside and with a striking view. Every morning we ate breakfast out and enjoy watching the sun rise over the ocean and mountains. It is not disturbed by traffic noise. You wake up to the chirping of birds, roosters crowing and dogs barking.
The house's location is ideal for excursions. After walks along levadas and mountain ridges, it was perfect to come to the house and cook dinner in the well equipped kitchen or on the barbecue. Living and dining area are made for pleasant company. We especially appreciated the nightly light the fire and enjoy the warmth of the crackling wood.
We received many great tips by the landlord if the destination and the best place to shop. The whole family is so happy and satisfied.
We have spent one week in the summer of 2014 in this lovely house. We are a family of 5, and we really enjoyed our stay at the property. The most important feature is the beautiful terrace, which has an amazing view over the city of Funchal. Here is where we spent most of our time. Since the house is located on one of the mountains of Funchal, it has a nearby hiking route into the forest, which also provides great views over the city. The house is very spacious and has two floors. The kitchen is fully equipped, and even has a dishwashing machine. The bedrooms, bathrooms and living room are all very well furnished. The owner is very kind and helpful, and we very much appreciate this. Overall, we had a wonderful time in this house. We recommend it to anyone that would like to have an active and outdoor holiday, as the location is perfect for such activities.
Dieses Haus lässt keine Wünsche übrig: phantastische Ausblicke, tolle Einrichtung, alles, was man zum Wohlfühlen braucht. Die Vermieterin-ENISA-
