About Noel & Lorna Bourke
Escaped the big city and set up home in this beautiful part of the world to breath clean air, immerse ourselves in the amazing scenery, grow our own food, keep bees, follow our passions of walking, gardening and cooking.
Noel & Lorna Bourke purchased this cottage in 2011
Why Noel & Lorna Bourke chose Sheeps Head
The Sheep's Head is a hidden gem in Ireland - a little peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, quiet and unspoiled. We are privileged to be custodians of a magnificent standing stone situated in our garden dating back to 1500 BC making it some 3,500 years old. The stone marks the Winter Solstice. It is symbolic of an ancient way of life lived by our Irish forefathers. For those people interested in star-gazing, Gallan Mor is a perfect spot because it has an uninterrupted view of the sky and as there is no light pollution, many stars and constellations can be seen clearly with the naked eye.
What makes this cottage unique
At cottage, its all about the views...views from every room. The cottage overlooks Dunmanus Bay right out to the end of Mizen Head and The Atlantic beyond. The cottage on an elevated site, away from the road but you can spend your days watching the fishing boats, sea gulls and gannets and sometimes dolphins in the bay. Or curl up in front of the fire with a good book. On fine days you can eat al fresco on the terrace. There are plenty of walks, long and short for you to enjoy.
