Overview

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Bowness & Windermere - The White House in the Lakes

A tranquil country setting with incredible views & just 10 mins to Bowness

The White House in the Lakes is a large detached home with plenty of space for large families or groups. Just 10 minutes from Bowness on Windermere.

Situated within walking distance of 2 excellent dining pubs (The Masons Arms and The Hare & Hounds) and just a few minutes drive from several more.

Close enough to Bowness and Lake Windermere to enjoy some shopping or lake activities yet far enough away to enjoy the secluded setting. Lots of lovely walks on your doorstep including Gummer's How - one of the finest views in the Lakes. A large well equipped kitchen, countryside views from each stylish bedroom, modern contemporary bathrooms together with a light and airy garden room and a large oak beamed lounge, with woodburning stove, makes this a very easy home for you to relax and enjoy. There is plenty of space outside for BBQ's and outside dining and lots of room for games with the children or simply lying on the lawn with a good book!

On arrival at the house we were greeted with a lovely welcome pack of well thought out and good quality products - tea, coffee, milk, red and white wine, spread, orange juice, marmalade. We had fresh flowers on the table and the fire all ready made up ready to light. The house was beautifully appointed with stunning views across the valley. Decoration and furnishings were to a very high standard. Bedding was crisp and comfortable with big fluffy towels and bathrobes in every bedroom. The pictures are representative of the house. We stayed at the end of November and were very lucky with the weather. It was a lovely walk to the nearest pub. The only addition that would have helped would have been an OS map to orientate ourselves and find nice walks but this is by no means a criticism. We were a group of 10 and all loved the property, found it better equipped than any other self catering properties we had stayed at. Loved the personal touches like the fresh fresh flowers and didn't want to leave. We will be return.

Beautiful property with a luxurious feel

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the White house, which is hard to beat for a large party of 3 families. There is loads of space with a fantastic kitchen, huge lounge diner, and amazing garden room with lovely views. The decor is tasteful in all areas and the fixtures and fittings all top quality. Beds are incredibly comfy and bathrooms are also very nicely done. All spotlessly clean. The owner was very helpful and responded quickly to queries.Without doubt one of the nicest properties we have stayed in. Will definitely return!

The property is beautiful. No more needs to be sai

We booked this house to celebrate my mothers 70th birthday. There were three generations in our party and two dogs. We arrived late on the Friday night but soon settled in by the warming fire and the lovely welcome basket that was waiting for us. The kitchen was exactly as I had hoped for. The family sitting round the large table, chatting, laughing, drinking wine and eating nibbles whilst we prepared the meals. The bedrooms were luxurious and we had everything we needed including hairdryers and fluffy white bathrobes. We were in late Autumn and so did not really utilise the garden but I can only imagine sitting on the patio in the summer would be superb.

The popular villages of the Lake District were within an easy drive, so we did venture out and even had a boat trip on Windermere, but to be honest, as much as I love the Lake District, I could not wait until we got back to the property, simply to relax, have some good food and wine and play games with the family. I could not recommend this property any higher. It was superb and I hope to return one day very soon. Many thanks Di. You and your house were fantastic.

Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

This was such a perfect house to celebrate a special family birthday. Spacious, luxurious, beautifully designed and in such a stunning setting.

Being familiar with the Lakes we also knew the house was close to some great pubs & restaurants. The Punch Bowl Inn is a 40 minute walk where we had a superb Saturday lunch. The Brown Horse at Winster is a short drive and excellent too. A mere 30 minute walk leads you to The Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge and slightly further on is The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank famous for it's extensive collection of real ales.

Bowness is close by for shops and the Lakes but personally we just enjoyed the house, lazy mornings and some good old fresh air!

Thanks Di for all your help. Hopefully we will be back again soon.

BEAUTIFUL HOUSE IN IDYLLIC SETTING

  • 5 of 5

The White House was the perfect venue for our family get together. The house was beautiful and located in the most picturesque spot - I could look at the view from the garden for hours. The White House is very spacious, clean, filled with character and the kitchen has real wow factor. We had lots of fun cooking on the AGA. We enjoyed walks along the pretty country lanes to the local pub and explored further afield by car making the most of the many activities, eateries and attractions. Fantastic venue for large or small groups alike.

Spend any occasion in this beautiful home.

We were recommended to stay at the White House, and to be honest we were not disappointed. Lovely location with fantastic views and we had two great meals at the local pubs. The property is clean and full of character, tastefully modernised to an exceptional standard. The owner was so helpful and friendly and the whole experience was brilliant, looking forward to staying there again soon.

The Lakes is a premium location for all outdoor activities.

From the house, you can wander for miles along the local country lanes, most leading to some of the most noted pubs in Cumbria, including The Hare & Hounds (1 mile), The Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank (1.5 miles and North West pub of the year 2012) and the renowned Punch Bowl Inn in Crosthwaite - 2.5 miles.

There are numerous routes for both mountain and road biking in the area.

For sightseers, and beyond the incredible hills, mountains, forests and lakes, the delightful villages of Ambleside, Hawkshead, Sawrey (Beatrix Potter's home) are within 30 minutes.

If you are a sailor, then of course the Lake is close, to enjoy the water with boats for hire, or, if you bring your own trailered craft, the slip way into the Lake is 10-15 minutes away. Plenty of room here at The White House in the Lakes to park your craft between lake adventures.
