I have been writing and publishing a Danish magazine about Great Britain since 2008 - and I am also blogging frequently about England AND Denmark. Both countries are close to my heart, and I share my life between them. I have a Danish netshop selling English things - and I also write about (and make) miniature and dolls houses. I have been married to John - a graphic designer - for several decades...

Mia purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

We had rented the house for ten years before we bought it, and now it is our home when we are in England. We love the peace it offers and all the visiting animals, and we love all the charm of an old house with plenty of history.

Hollymount is our English house, positioned between Great Malvern and Worcester. It is a lovely old house with a very special atmosphere, and it is surrounded by a huge country garden and fields. There are no near neighbours, only sheep - and if you have a stressful life, you can really find peace and quiet here.

Wonderfull

  • 5 out of 5
Our family , 4 adults, spend one week together in Hollymount and what a wonderful place to stay. Although we were only 6 kilometers from the center of Worchester , we felt that we were put away from everyday stress in the most beautiful surroundings. The house is charming and very English in style. It is extremely well equipped and offers a comfortable stay for up to 6 people.
We will surely return in the near future.
Kind regars

Fairy Tale Experience in England's Countryside

Fairy Tale Experience in England's Countryside
  • 5 out of 5
The magic of Hollymount begins as you pull into the drive. The sweet smell of lavender, mint, sage, and rosemary surround you. Cotton puffs of sheep bleat and roam in the adjacent hillside. The house looks like a building Shakespeare may have lived in. At once colors come alive; white, lavender, pink, green. It's like a rainbow exploded and bits of color landed everywhere.

The house is large and comfortable. My children were impressed with the library of movies and books...though I admit we never watched any. We felt it was far too beautiful of a place to stay inside.

Browse the gardens and you will find the aromas and colors only get richer. Fruit trees, roses in white, hot pink, baby pink, and colors in between allure you with a sniff.

Though Hollymount is certainly a special place, my favorite time was sunset. After the children were tucked in to wonderfully comfortable beds, I wandered the gardens in serenity and peace. Without a sole to bother you, you can meditate, contemplate, relax, or even just sit in silence as you let the pink, blue, and orange sky change colors in front of you like a light show. The pink dominates the sky and reflects off the ground below. Even the sheep look covered in a pink hue as the sun sets against the blue hills and green fields. The sheep roam unaware at how beautiful and magical the setting is...partly thanks to them.

If being bathed in a warm pink and orange glow at sunset wasn't enough for you, the town of Great Malvern is charming and full of friendly, courteous, and warm people. Make sure you walk some of the trails offered. One of my favorite memories is hiking to St. Anne's Well. Just when you think the countryside can't get any more scenic, a cafe with a well in the middle of it appears around the corner. With delicious soups, bread, and tea, you have a snack in the forest like a nymph or fairy tale character. Continue up the hike. The views are worth it...too good to be true.

Certainly a dream come true for me. I won't long forget Malvern, Hollymount, or England. It stays with you like a dream...comforting and enchanting...and not so very far away.

What a unique place - I´ll be back for sure!

  • 5 out of 5
So far away, and yet so central! 35 minutes from Birmingham Airport and 10 minutes to the beautilful Cathedral-town Worcester with all it´s charming and perfect shops, cafe´s and restaurants.

This beautiful, spacy and charming Black & White house was a perfect spot for a strategy-meeting we just held with a client. The well-functioning frames, the calmness, the wide looks, the sheeps and rabbits just outside the window was a perfect combination for our business-meeting. Så perfect for business, but there is no doubt that I´ll be back with my familiy very soon. There is so much more to see in this area, and the local pub/restaurant (The Fox) was splendid and affordable. I Highly recommend this place to families, couples and companies.

Absolute Heaven

* The Date of Arrival is inaccurate as sadily I am unable to select any date earlier than last April, the actual date for our stay was January 6th - 13th 2012*

I had stopped at Hollymount in the late 90's with my mother and friends when I was just a child, the memories were everlasting and I rebooked for a break for myself and my wife last year as a late honeymoon treat. Everything about Hollymount is perfect. From the moment you drive up the long driveway until the moment you leave. There is nobody to disturb you, only sheep in the fields, the garden is nice and large and very peaceful. The cottage itself is very cosy with everything you need, there is even a selection of games, DVD's, Videos and books for the rainy days. We both really enjoyed the conservatory, even in mid winter you are able to sit in there as there is enough heating. One of the best things about Hollymount are the views, I would spend hours sat in one of the front bedrooms looking out across the Worcestershire countryside, We both loved the feeling at the end of the day that we had Hollymount to return to, and we left at the end of the week feeling so relaxed and very sad that the week had come to an end.

There is plenty to do in the area, Worcester and Malvern is only a 10-15 minute drive away, and Birmingham is less than an hours drive away. If you fancy a local day without using the car then all you need to do is leave the cottage grounds and you are surrounded by lots of fantastic country walks. There are some good restaurants in the area too, some within walking distance.

I would recommend this property to anyone. We are both very fond of the old gem, and are saving up to return. If you are looking for a relaxing country break. away from it all, where the only sound to be heard is the wildlife and trees rustling in the wind then look no further than Hollymount.

Owner's Response: I think it is fantastic that you have remembered Hollymount since your first stay as a child... and that you still feel the same about the old house and the surroundings. It IS a special place, and these days it is so nice to find peace and quiet from time to time.

Thank you for taking time to write so kind words of Hollymount - I look forward to welcoming you both back ... Mia

dreamhouse in beautiful surrounding

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed in this house for 1 week in spring with a family of 5 persons. The house is situated in the middle of the country near Worcester. The surrounding is beautiful and at the horizon you glimps the Malvern hills. Near the house there is a public footpath which leads you to a field of sheep, forest and so on. The house is situated approx. 200 m from the nearest road and also neighbors are far away. The garden is huge and there is a lot of privacy. The house is a typical old English country house with low ceilings and wooden floors. It is however very spacious with kitchen, dining room, living room and a sun lounge, and upstairs at least 3 to 4 bedrooms and several bathrooms. The Sun lounge was our favorite spot . Here you can sit in the daylight and enjoy the beautiful garden or the sunset over the Malvern hills. We enjoyed this house very much, it is comfortable and very quiet. Also the kids loved it very much.
