Enjoy lovely sunrises from your bedroom and sunsets from your balcony at this waterfront condominium on 500 acres of Wildlife Preserve with many species of birds, 12 miles of hiking and biking paths and access to an exceptional sandy swimming beach recently described as 'one of the top ten beaches in the United States.' A restored lighthouse sits on the promontory of this peninsula on the south west tip of Puerto Rico. 500 yards from an excellent restaurant, Bahia Salinas, with live music on weekends and available bike rentals there. Condo has two large bedrooms, two full baths, 2 inflatable twin-size mattresses, living room and eat-in kitchen; pool on premises; two kayaks for your personal use, HD TV, Bluray DVD, ipod docking station. Minimum rental is six days.
my wife and I first visited the peninsula where the condo is located and decided on the spot to buy a condo in this most beautiful place. We got home, deciding we were crazy, but then received a series of photos of the place by email . Our anxieties melted away. We, our children and grandchildren now all love being there.
Robert White purchased this condo in 2006
we bought our vacation rental because of the beautiful beach, the gorgeous sunsets, and the chance to share it with our (adult) kids and our grandchildren.
The apartment is great. Well stocked. The best part of the apt are the kayaks!!! Kayak rentals are expensive. This was such a money saver. The area is great for nature lovers and photographers. The only time it gets busy is during the weekends when the local beach, La playuela, gets packed. The apt is on the third floor which can be difficult for the elderly. The only complaint is that the previous users of the kayaks, beach chairs, and outdoor grill did not clean them. Everyone should have consideration for others property.
This was my 9th trip to Puerto Rico for winter vacation, and I have stayed all around the island. My favorite area is the Cabo Rojo area and La Playuela. I stayed with 2 girlfriends and we had a magnificent time. It is in a more remote area, which we loved. You do have to drive everywhere, but everything is close. This was one of the best condos I have stayed in. It was obviously used and loved by the owners, it was so well stocked! I have rented condos where you get a "starter set" which is one roll of toilet paper, and a bar of soap. There was dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo, and spices!! The owners left all the important information about the condo and it was stocked with water toys, chairs, and life jackets, and 2 kayaks. The process for checking in and out was easy. We loved being able to see the sunrise from the bedrooms every morning and the sunset from the front deck at night. The breeze was great, we never used a fan or an air conditioner. The furniture and beds were of a better quality than you sometimes get, like real people lived there. It was very quiet, so if you want a lot of action, this may not be the place for you. We loved it. We enjoyed many of the local beaches, and had a great meal at Annie's in Combate, and some drinks at the next door resort, Bahia Salinas. A couple of downsides were that there was a common laundry area that was coin operated, no lounge chairs down by the pool, and the deck was a shared deck with 3 other condos, which was not a problem for us since we were the only ones there. There was no outside eating area. Nevertheless, I would rent this condo again and highly recommend it for others. I give it 5 stars!! Thank you Robert and Mary for sharing your home with us.
For a start, we have had a wonderful week in Cabo Rojo. Communication with the owner was very nice, the apartment is big en clean and has good beds, showers en absolutely everything you need! We really enjoined the kayaks! We knew there was no wifi, but we really missed it. Especially now MH17 (Dutch aircraft was shot down by Oekraine rebels) and we wanted more information.
We were a little less happy with the location. Beach in front could only be used to enter with the kayak, and july is not the best month to see birds and wildlife and we preferred the more green parts of the island. But thats just a matter of taste and we knew about the dry bit from the start.
Overall a very nice stay.
PS there is a wonderful walk just on the left side of the watchtower! You have to pass a closed gate (so not easy to find or access) but beautiful there.
We just returned from our second stay in this comfortable and spectacularly-located condo. As others have mentioned, the complex is very quiet (perhaps summer and holidays are different) and a bit away from activity. It can be a great base for explorations of this part of the island, or a totally satisfying place to spend whatever time is not at La Playuela or the other local beaches. We loved the comfort, breezes, and views. The daily decisions centered around which beach, and which book to read next, exactly what we wanted.
A transportation note: we have always flown to SJU and driven to the southwest. This time we opted to fly Jetblue from Hartford to SJU and connect to Mayaguez via Cape Air. It seemed like an opportunity to fly over the interior of the island and avoid a 3 hour drive. It was definitely worth exploring, although we did need to take a taxi from the tiny airport to the Mayaguez Mall Avis to pick up our car(the only rental place open after 6pm, though there is a Thrifty desk in the airport if you arrive on an earlier flight). The drive from there is easy--perhaps 45 minutes, with several supermarkets en route (and a roadside stand selling cocos frios and the only avocados we could find just south of the mall--worth a stop) We didn't actually save much total time, but had a very different adventure, so it's worth considering....
I really cannot think of much the apartment lacks. A garlic press? Internet(available at the parador next door)? Bikes (would be nice but not required)? It is impeccably kept, and stocked with many basic spices and cooking supplies.
Something new: the fact that the lighthouse and beach have official hours now, with a gate that is open between 9 and 5. Yikes! There also seems to be an attempt to limit vehicle entry on weekends, which means lots of cars parked along the road by the condo complex and people waiting for the trolley to take them in and out. Not a problem, unless you try to go to the beach late in the day on the weekend and are turned away by the policia.
All told, a great spot, and one I look forward to returning to!
My wife and I spent 8 wonderful days at this Cabo Rojo condo. It was immaculate, well equiped and a great place for unwinding, and a great base for exploration of the Cabo Rojo area. We would love to return next year.
Our family of 3 loved this home away from home! It is gorgeous with all the amenties described and then some. Spacious with sunrise and sunset views over water (yes, water on both sides!). The pictures are accurate, although it is nicer than the pictures even show! The location is quiet, well away from the traffic and hustle of other areas of the island. The diving in La Parguerra and snorkeling at Playa Buye (both about 20 min away) was terrific. The owner was super helpful and very, very easy to work with! Lots of great places to eat. The lighthouse can be seen from the balcony, which we thought was wonderful! Many areas of interest are not that far away. We even went to the Arecibo Observatory. It was one of the best vacations ever (and we travel a bit).
